HOUSTON, TEXAS: Kyren Lacy, a former wide receiver for Louisiana State University (LSU), was discovered dead in Houston on the evening of Saturday, April 12, reported People. It is suspected that the 24-year-old took his own life.

Lacy was facing felony charges for being involved in a fatal car crash on December 17, 2024, that killed former marine Herman Hall. A grand jury formed for the case was expected to begin hearing evidence on Monday, April 14.

As per the publication, the athlete transferred to LSU in 2022 after playing two seasons at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. In the 2024 football season, Lacy had 58 catches for 866 yards and nine touchdowns. He was declared for the NFL 2025 draft on December 19, 2024.

The car crash involving Kyren Lacy

Kyren Lacy was involved in a car crash in December 2024 that led to the death of Herman Hall, 78. He was allegedly driving recklessly, speeding and passing in a no-passing zone, which resulted in a motorist swerving to avoid him and crashing into another vehicle.

 Hall, who was involved in the head-on crash, died after being taken to hospital.

According to the Louisiana State Police, Lacy fled the scene without stopping to help or call for aid. An arrest warrant was obtained for him for negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run, and reckless operation of a vehicle.

Authorities later confirmed that he "met with Troopers and was booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex on charges related to the arrest warrant in January." He was later released on bail.

LSU releases statement on Kyren Lacy's death

LSU issued a statement after the news of Kyren Lacy's death came to light, saying, "We’re saddened to learn of the tragic passing of former LSU Football student-athlete Kyren Lacy. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones, as well as his former teammates and coaches impacted by his passing.”



 

Lacy’s friend and basketball player Rontrell Sandolph paid tribute to him on Instagram, writing, "I’m so lost for words. I’m speechless. I went to sleep 4 times and woke up to see if that was a dream... All the talks, all the tears, everything, you know GOD had us... The dreams we had started to kick in, you making it to (the) NFL (and) me playing ball overseas. (Our) dreams (were) coming to reality."
