LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The Los Angeles District Attorney’s office has confirmed that Sean 'Diddy' Combs, the renowned rap artist, cannot be prosecuted for an alleged assault on his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, due to the statute of limitations.

This announcement comes a day after a hotel security footage was released on Friday, May 17, allegedly showing Combs violently assaulting Ventura in 2016.

Los Angeles DA’s statement on Sean 'Diddy' Combs

The District Attorney’s office released a statement detailing why the office was not in a position to prosecute or press charges against Combs.

“We are aware of the video that has been circulating online allegedly depicting Sean Combs assaulting a young woman in Los Angeles," The District Attorney's office wrote on Instagram.

"We find the images extremely disturbing and difficult to watch.” The statement further explained that if the conduct depicted occurred in 2016, "unfortunately we would be unable to charge as the conduct would have occurred beyond the timeline where a crime of assault can be prosecuted."

They encouraged anyone who has been a victim or witness to a crime to report it to law enforcement or reach out to their office for support from their Bureau of Victims Services.

Cassie Ventura’s allegations against Sean 'Diddy' Combs

Combs is allegedly seen brutally beating Ventura in a hallway in 2016 in the surveillance video reported by CNN.

Ventura sued Combs in November 2023, accusing him of physical and sexual abuse. However, she dropped the case after the parties reached an out-of-court settlement a day later.

“The gut-wrenching video has only further confirmed the disturbing and predatory behavior of Mr Combs," Ventura’s lawyer, Douglas Wigdor, said in a statement released to the media.

"Words cannot express the courage and fortitude that Ms Ventura has shown in coming forward to bring this to light," the lawyer added.

Assault video to likely accelerate Sean 'Diddy' Combs federal investigation

Earlier this year, federal agents from Homeland Security Investigations raided Combs’ mansions in Los Angeles and Miami as part of an ongoing investigation after several lawsuits were filed against him.

Derrick Parker, a former investigator with the NYPD’s rap intelligence unit, predicted federal racketeering (RICO) charges against Combs before July 4.

“This video is very damaging to his case. This is gonna hurt him badly, because it adds credence to what Ms Ventura has been alleging about the abuse from him," he told Fox News.

Internet is furious at DA's statement on Sean 'Diddy' Combs assault video

Netizens have reacted strongly to the DA’s statement on Instagram, with many criticizing the statute of limitations and calling for justice for Ventura.

One Instagram user wrote, “Why is there even a statue limitations?” while another commented, “Unbelievable you’re going to let this slide … do your jobs !! You seen exactly what he did to her ! There shouldn’t be a statue of limitations on that.”

"Just pretend it was Trump who did it, lol I’m sure you’ll find a way to bend the laws to your favor," joked one criticizing Manhattan District Attorney who brought a hush-money case against Donald Trump.

"The video may have been publicly circulated now, but was the DAs office aware prior to today (ie within the limitations period)? She filed a civil lawsuit. I have to assume she filed a police report as well," wrote another.

"The Hotel had this video and never reported it to the police or didn't call the police should be brought up and should make exceptions to the statue of limitations based on how powerful he is or was she definitely deserve justice and the hotel security should be in trouble as well as the manager on duty," wrote another.

"Bullshit…. That’s how people like Diddy get away with crimes and it’s because people like him get encouraged and others feel above the law !!" one more wrote in the comment box.
