Lady Colin Campbell's fundraiser to aid Meghan Markle's abandoned father, Thomas, garners over $50K
LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM: A fundraising campaign for Meghan Markle's estranged father, Thomas Markle, has generated a lot of money.
A GoFundMe set up by British socialite Lady Colin Campbell to assist the "abandoned" father in covering his medical expenses and other necessities has so far garnered over $50,000, Radar Online reported.
What did Lady Campbell write in the summary of her fundraiser for Thomas Markle?
"[Thomas Markle] has been exceedingly generous with his time and money over the years, as I have learnt from the teachers at his daughter's school, who could not sing his praises highly enough," Lady Campbell wrote in the summary for the fundraiser referring to Meghan Markle.
She added, "His kindness and generosity are well known in the film community, and I agree that now that he has been rejected and abandoned by the daughter, those of us who wish to show him solidarity and give him the acknowledgement he should be getting from the actual recipient of his largesse, will hopefully, through our contributions, no matter how small, demonstrate to him that there are still people in the world with good hearts, good values, and good intentions."
The royal author went on to call herself a "well-wisher" and expressed her hope that the donations will provide 80-year-old Thomas with the "comfort he deserves" as his health deteriorates.
Thomas Markle and Meghan Markle have been estranged since the time of her 2018 wedding
Ever since Meghan Markle married Prince Harry in 2018, she and Thomas Markle have not been in contact. This implies that the ex-lighting designer has also missed out on the chance to get to know his two grandchildren, Lilibet and Archie.
Thomas acknowledged earlier this year that, while he didn't have great expectations for it to happen, he hoped to revive his connection with Meghan. "I know the one person I most want to hear from, Meghan, won’t be in touch," he told the Daily Mail.
"I would love to meet my grandchildren, but I would be happy with a photograph at this stage." he added.
Thomas Markle previously called out Prince Harry and Meghan Markle for leaving UK
Thomas Markle previously criticized the royal runaways for denying their children the opportunity to interact with members of the royal family after they departed the UK and relocated to the US in 2020.
"It struck me as very sad that Meghan and Harry’s kids are being denied the right to know their cousins, who look like fantastic children, or take part in things like Trooping the Colour, which is their birthright," he said in a July interview.
“They are getting to the age where they will start to ask questions, as all kids do. I find myself wondering how Archie and Lilbet will feel in a few years’ time when they realize all the things they have missed out on,” the 80-year-old added.
GoFundMe for Thomas Markle gets poured with love and support
Many people have showered Thomas Markle's GoFundMe with notes of support.
One wrote, "Happy Birthday Mr Markle! My heart has gone out to you since the day your daughter abandoned you. Not meeting your son-n-law is awful and denied your grandchildren is unforgivable. Hope one day you will get both! I avoid anything to do with your daughter. You deserve the world! Feel better-you are loved!"
Another said, "May this donation make you a little more comfortable. You are blessed with 2 out of 3 good children. The third should hang her head in shame as should her mother. Respect to Lady c for organizing this fundraiser and to Thomas jnr for sticking by you."
"Thomas I am sending you so much love and support I share your pain, truly I do, my own daughters have abandoned me too when, like you, I was a devoted loving parent. It hurts like hell and I too fear I may die without seeing them again or meeting my grandchildren. What a dreadful thing this is. This painful injustice is so cruel. Lots of us can see the truth of your situation and send you love," wrote one donor.
"My father is gone from this earth and I wish I could give him a hug. I want to give it to you and just know that you have daughters around the world now. You are loved," said another well-wisher.
