Lainey Wilson shares her struggle to get selected in ‘The Voice’

According to Wilson, she got rejected by ‘The Voice’ seven times before she could make her name in country music.

The singer, who tasted success in 2020 with the release of her single ‘Things a Man Oughta Know', now has multiple #1 hits to her name. Wilson has subsequently become a Grand Ole Opry member, a CMA and ACM Entertainer of the Year, and a Grammy winner.

However, she had a very humble beginning after getting rejected by ‘The Voice’ seven times.

During an interview with ET, she recalled her experience of getting rejected seven times and shared, “I didn’t even make it to the part…where they turn the chairs around.”

Despite not making it to the competition, she paved her way to success as the rejections fueled her desire to make her own name in the entertainment industry.

After sharing her experience, ‘Heart Like A Truck’ star shared with a laugh, “But hey, it just kind of lit a fire under me, and I said, ‘Ya gotta keep on going.'”

Wilson not only tried her fate in ‘The Voice’ but also in ‘American Idol’. The songstress went to the audition of ‘American Idol’ seven times as well but never made past the first round.

Lainey Wilson returns to ‘The Voice’ as Team Reba’s playoff advisor

As its said all’s well that ends well, Wilson - after being a popular singer - returned to ‘The Voice’ to perform during Season 25 finale. At that time, Judge Reba McEntire surprised her by inviting her to join the Grand Ole Opry.

Wilson, eager to help the contestants, took the opportunity and joined Team Reba during season 26 as a Playoff Advisor.

During the rehearsals also, Wilson recalled her experience of getting rejected by Reba when the 69-year-old songstress said, “You tried out for ‘The Voice’ seven times,” before adding, “…and look where you are now!”

“I tried out seven times…It’s pretty crazy!” Wilson responded.

Reba noted then, “That shows you, [that] if you want something, you’ve gotta fight for it,” before adding, “You gotta stay in there. You’re gonna get a lot of ‘Nos.’ That’s what we keep telling everybody when we have to make decisions!”
