Snoop Dogg called out for 'ridiculous' move of having Simone Biles as guest mentor on 'The Voice'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Snoop Dogg and Simone Biles are poised to transform their camaraderie from the Olympic Games into a new venture by collaborating on NBC's 'The Voice'.
Biles is set to appear alongside the rap icon in an episode of the reality competition TV series, scheduled to air on Monday, November 25.
Snoop Dogg teams up with Simone Biles on 'The Voice'
As a coach on the show, Snoop Dogg brought on board a Team USA Olympics legend—who secured three gymnastics gold medals in Paris this summer—as a mentor for the playoff round to guide five vocalists competing for a place in the live shows.
According to Daily Mail, the pairing of the sports and music icons was a superb match, as they brought their effortless chemistry from the Olympics to the television set of 'The Voice.'
"We were able to riff off each other and give the artists the best insight going into the next round," Biles made the statement following the completion of the episode's filming in Los Angeles.
She added, "It was pretty easy, simple. We're both very mellow. But if we need to bring that energy up, then we can. For us, it was about instilling confidence going into the next week."
Biles may be renowned for her athletic achievements, but she has shown an ability to connect with music contestants on a peer-to-peer level.
"These are the learning steps: Learn, process, go back in and work," she said, adding "They all have the vocal talent. It's about harnessing that, knowing when to bring it out and which songs to sing and which genre you fit in. And what you want your legacy to be."
She went on to say, "This is truly a special show as well as the judging. They don't get to see the physical appearance first. It's all off of ears, listening and putting their craft together as well."
Simone Biles and Snoop Dogg bring Olympic chemistry to 'The Voice'
During the Olympics, Simone Biles and Snoop Dogg shared several viral moments.
They reunited to support Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone in her 400-meter hurdles race; Snoop presented Ronald, Biles' father, with a Death Row Records gold necklace for his 75th birthday; and he was seen dancing in the stands during the women's gymnastics qualifiers, with the legendary gymnast and her teammate Jordan Chiles participating.
On set, Biles frequently displayed a cheerful demeanor, observing Snoop Dogg as he exuded his natural charisma.
She said, "I knew Snoop would stay true and authentic to himself here on 'The Voice.' It's nice that you don´t have to fit a mold. There´s a space for everyone."
Snoop mentioned that collaborating on the episode was a logical decision for both parties involved.
"This is family. It feels good. '(Biles) can do anything she wants to do. She picks and chooses what she wants to do. We're at that point of our careers right now. It has to feel good. It can´t be forced or I'm not doing it. Period, point, blank," Snoop said.
Although they have pursued different career paths, Snoop and Biles both hold a mutual admiration for each other's capacity to excel on the grandest platforms.
"We have such diverse careers. But the things that we dealt with, they´re dealing with now," Snoop, the ultra-smooth entertainer, took on a starring role as a special correspondent in NBC's record-breaking coverage.
He serves as a coach on 'The Voice', alongside Michael Buble, Reba McEntire, and Gwen Stefani, each striving to discover and mentor the next singing sensation.
Fans slam Snoop Dogg’s decision to bring Simone Biles as guest mentor on ‘The Voice’
On Facebook, several fans of 'The Voice' have expressed their disappointment with Snoop Dogg's decision to bring in Simone Biles as a guest mentor for his team.
A fan wrote, "But this show is about musicians judging people with vocal talent... So why is that Olympic champion in a singing competition?!"
Another added, "Please? She knows nothing about it."
In another Facebook post, a commentator asked, "What's her experience with music?"
"Are people going to do gymnastics while they sing?" one mocked.
Another person said, "This is so ridiculous. This is supposed to be a singing competition and those two aren't singers."
