JUPITER, FLORIDA: President-elect Donald Trump's daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, announced on Monday, December 8 that she has decided to step down as co-chair of the Republican National Committee and is considering other potential options with her father-in-law.

She announced her decision in an Instagram post where she mentioned that RNC accomplished all three goals that were set during her tenure as the co-chair. However, some people on the Internet fear that she might become a 'full-time' singer.

Lara Trump to step down as co-chair of RNC

Lara Trump took to Instagram to share a carousel of photos from her time at the RNC and convey how grateful she was for the experience. She wrote in the caption, "Serving as the RNC co-chair throughout the course of the most consequential election in American history has truly been the honor of my life."

She continued, "At the RNC, we had three distinct goals: 1) surpass all fundraising records 2) build the largest army of lawyers and poll watchers to ensure election integrity and, 3) turn out millions of Americans and low propensity voters during early voting. We accomplished all three."

She concluded the post and wrote, "The job I came to do is now complete and I intend to formally step down from the RNC at our next meeting. Thank you to our incredible team at the RNC, our amazing Chairman Michael Whatley, and, of course, thank you to President Donald Trump — we are so proud of you and I’m grateful you trusted me in this position."

Notably, Lara Trump was elected as RNC co-chair in March 2024 and was a key player in the Republicans retaking the White House and control of the Senate while maintaining a narrow House majority.

Led by chairman Michael Whatley and Lara, the RNC invested heavily in recruiting around 230,000 volunteers and an army of lawyers for what it called its "election integrity" effort.

Moreover, outside groups such as Turning Point Action and Elon Musk's America PAC took greater responsibility for advertising and get-out-the-vote efforts.

Lara Trump has faced flak for her musical offerings

Lara Trump has been releasing music for nearly a year now, starting with her infamous rendition of Tom Petty’s 'I Won’t Back Down'.

Since then, she has released two original songs, 'Hero' and 'Anything is Possible'. However her musical efforts have more often than not met with ridicule and mockery.

Earlier in September, Lara responded to critics of her song 'Hero', stating that they were doing so as they couldn't fault her political contributions. She sparked a barrage of trolls on social media after releasing a song with singer Madeline Jaymes honoring first responders in August, according to The Hill.

Lara said on September 8 on NewsNation’s 'The Hill Sunday', "All of those … anything I’ve done in a musical sense, has all been prior to my role in the RNC. The timing of things, of course, [is] very confident that people are trying to knock me for this. I’ve been very clear about what my job is. It is to win this election in 2024 for Donald Trump and Republicans all the way down the ticket."

Internet divided as Lara Trump steps down as RNC co-chair

People on the Internet were divided and had mixed reactions as Lara Trump announced her decision to step down as co-chair of the Republican National Committee.

A user wrote on X, "Why is Lara Trump stepping down as co-chair of the RNC? Hopefully, it’s not to pursue a full-time singing career", while one added, "'I Will Step Down' is gonna be Lara Trump’s B-side of her Tom Petty ripoff song 'I Won't Back Down', isn't it?"

A person also stated, "How you step down, When you never actually step up?" Whereas one mentioned, "Lara Trump moving on to more lucrative institutions to ransack."

Meanwhile, some people appreciated her time as the co-chair of the RNC. Some online comments read, "Excited to see what’s next for you @laraleatrump America needs you!!" and "You are the unsung hero of the election. You should be president someday. God bless you."

A user also wrote, "You changed our party for the better! A new generation and a new way forward! MAGA!", while one commented, "Rockstar !!! Thank you for all the time you sacrificed for all of us to help MAGA."
