Laura Benanti reveals why she 'never liked' 'She Loves Me' co-star Zachary Levi
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Laura Benanti, celebrated for her stage and screen work, recently shared blunt opinions about her former co-star Zachary Levi.
During an interview on 'That’s a Gay A*s Podcast', Benanti revealed that working alongside Levi in the 2016 Broadway revival of 'She Loves Me' was far from enjoyable, as reported by Variety.
Laura Benanti speaks out about Zachary Levi
“I never liked him,” she stated unapologetically. “Everyone was like, ‘He’s so great!’ And I was like, ‘No, he’s not. He’s sucking up all the energy in this room.’”
Benanti further described Levi’s behavior as disruptive, claiming he would try to “mansplain everybody’s part to them” and organize dance parties before performances. “He really sucked everybody in with his dance party energy,” she recalled, admitting she stayed far away from his attempts to rally the cast.
Benanti’s disdain for Levi escalated after his comments following the death of Gavin Creel, a beloved Broadway actor who also starred in 'She Loves Me'. Creel died earlier this year at 48 due to metastatic melanotic peripheral nerve sheath sarcoma.
Shortly after Creel’s death, Levi sparked outrage by suggesting in an Instagram Live video that Creel’s death was linked to the Covid-19 vaccine. Adding to the controversy, Levi referred to Creel as his “friend,” a claim Benanti disputed.
“For him to use Gavin’s memory, a person he was not friends with for his political agenda and to watch him try to make himself cry until he had one single tear, which he did not wipe away, I was like, ‘F**k you forever,’” Benanti said, expressing her anger at what she viewed as a manipulative and inappropriate act.
