Internet enraged over allegations that late 'Friends' star Matthew Perry used dating apps to obtain drugs
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The late 'Friends' star Matthew Perry is facing posthumous controversy as sources claim he obtained drugs from much younger individuals through the dating app Raya, even while under the 24/7 care of a nursing team, per Daily Mail.
Perry, who passed away at the age of 54 in October from a ketamine overdose, had asserted in his 2022 memoir that he was finally sober. However, recent revelations contradict this claim, indicating that he was "never clean."
Internet divided over Matthew Perry's alleged drug use through dating apps
The recent revelation about the late 'Friends' star Matthew Perry allegedly using dating apps to obtain drugs has sparked a diverse range of reactions on the internet.
While some users express empathy and urge others to refrain from judging Perry, given that he cannot refute the posthumous claims, others emphasize the importance of acknowledging addiction struggles.
One user defended Perry, stating, "Leave the poor guy alone. He's not here to defend himself. And you haven't walked in his shoes to know his thoughts. Shame on you."

Matthew Perry's alleged use of dating app hook-ups for drugs
Despite having a 24/7 nursing team and a live-in sober companion, Perry allegedly managed to have casual hook-ups bring him illicit drugs without detection.
According to sources, he would meet individuals, mainly aged 21 to 25, on the dating app Raya, who would bring drugs, primarily Oxycontin, with them. The sources suggest that Perry would convince them he needed the drugs for pain treatment.
The actor's body was likely discovered by his live-in assistant, Kenny Iwamasa.
Perry's engagement to Molly Hurwitz collapsed amid allegations of him flirting with 19-year-old Kate Haralson on Raya. Haralson had posted a video on TikTok showing a video call between her and Perry in 2021, exposing the actor's habit of playing "20 Questions" with young girls from dating sites.
Perry's reclusive behavior in his later years and struggles with maintaining sobriety are also highlighted by sources.
"He was incredibly reclusive in his later years. Some people are coming forward and making out that they saw him a lot but that is not the case," a source said to Daily Mail.
"He did not want the people he loved to see him, he did not want them to witness his struggles," the person continued, adding, "Matthew was never able to maintain any type of long term sobriety so everything that you have read in [his memoir] is wrong β he was not sober and was not able to maintain it."
The source further alleged, "He would have bouts of getting it together and being okay, but then they would be followed by moments of weakness and of using. He had demons. He tortured himself."
"I think with [his memoir], Matthew thought it would help him to get to the place that he was describing," speculated the source, continuing to suggest, "He was writing about what he was hoping to be the situation as if he was already there. He was writing the script that he wanted."
Perry's use of ketamine, which led to his tragic demise, is said to have started after he was prescribed the drug for therapeutic purposes to treat depression.
