Legendary boxer Christy Martin excited as 'talented' Sydney Sweeney is set to portray her in upcoming biopic

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Christy Martin is thrilled over the casting choice of "young, hot, talented" Sydney Sweeney to portray her in an upcoming biopic project.

The legendary boxer shared that she is excited at the 'Euphoria' star bringing her life to audiences worldwide, according to TMZ.

Martin's enthusiasm for Sweeney's casting also stems from her background in MMA.

She emphasized her eagerness to assist the actress in her training for the role.

Despite not having any involvement in the film, the former boxer shared hopes for the project to explore the different aspects of her personal life beyond her professional achievements.

Christy Martin wants her biopic to bring awareness to domestic violence

Speaking to the outlet about what she is looking forward to in her biopic, Martin said, "I want this movie to bring awareness to domestic violence, the challenge of sexuality and overall underdog story," she told the outlet.

"I am a coal miner's daughter from a small town in southern West Virginia that made an impact in a sport that wasn't taken seriously, women’s boxing," she said.

Martin praised Sweeney for her talent as she said the 26-year-old actress is "young, hot, talented and about to make a movie that in 20-plus years, fathers will watch with their daughters to make them aware of domestic violence."

Black Bear will produce the David Michod-directed project in association with Sweeney's production company, Fifty Fifty Films, Anonymous Content, Votiv, and Yoki.

Inside Christy Martin's upcoming biopic

The upcoming biopic will tell "the unbelievable true story of formidable Christy Martin, who rose to fame as America's most successful female boxer in the 1990s," according to the synopsis.

"A naturally gifted fighter, Christy's life transformed in 1989 when she met her manager, and later husband, Jim Martin," read the synopsis, as per TMZ.

The biopic will shed light on Martin's personal battles, which included her "toxic relationships, and an attempt on her life,  proving that a fighter's hardest won victories aren't always in the ring."

"Breaking boundaries, she became the first woman to sign with iconic promoter, Don King, and the only female boxer to appear on the cover of Sports Illustrated," the synopsis continues.

Sydney Sweeney says she loves 'challenging' herself with Christy Martin biopic

Sweeney, who is set to portray the "female Rocky," expressed her excitement for her role in the upcoming project.

"I grappled and did kickboxing from 12-19 years old. I’ve been itching to get back into the ring, train, and transform my body," she told Deadline.

"Christy’s story isn’t a light one, it’s physically and emotionally demanding, and there’s a lot of weight to carry. But I love challenging myself,” she added.
