BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA: The death of former 'One Direction' member Liam Payne on October 16, shocked the world.
Known for his stellar rise to fame as part of the beloved British boy band, Payne’s tragic fall from a third-floor balcony in Buenos Aires left many questions unanswered.
In the wake of his untimely passing, new details have emerged about his behavior leading up to the incident, particularly in connection with his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, and her sudden departure from their vacation, as per PEOPLE.
Liam Payne's 'erratic behavior started ramping up' after Kate Cassidy left early
According to sources close to the late singer and Kate Cassidy, Liam Payne’s "erratic behavior started ramping up" after his girlfriend Cassidy left early.
Reports suggest that the relationship between Payne and Cassidy, 25, had been solid throughout their time together, with Cassidy supporting Payne through some difficult periods, including his legal troubles with his ex Maya Henry.
However, a source close to the couple revealed that Payne’s behavior took a sharp turn after Cassidy cut her vacation short, leaving him alone just days before his death.
“Like you could see from the Snapchat videos, he was a different person around her,” an insider said, hinting that Payne seemed calmer and more stable when Cassidy was around.
The source also stated, "Her early departure seemed to trigger something in him."
The pair, who had been spotted together since October 2022, kept their relationship relatively private, though Cassidy would occasionally share glimpses of their life on social media.
Throughout Payne’s legal struggles with Henry, Cassidy reportedly stood by his side. “She had been super supportive of him through all the legal drama and very much stood by him,” the insider shared.
This support likely included the challenging period when Henry, 23, posted on TikTok that Payne, without directly naming him, was "blowing up" her phone, despite their relationship being long over.
This incident eventually led to Henry filing a cease-and-desist order against Payne.
Liam Payne had several drugs in his system at time of his death
As more details about Payne’s death surface, authorities are piecing together the tragic chain of events leading up to his fatal fall from the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires.
According to multiple reports, Payne was found to have several drugs in his system at the time of his death.
Sources told ABC News that the substances included a mix of “pink cocaine,” a potent party drug that often contains dangerous chemicals like methamphetamine, ketamine, and MDMA, but not necessarily cocaine.
A partial autopsy revealed that Payne had ingested multiple substances before his fall.
Further investigations also revealed that authorities found an improvised aluminum pipe used for drug consumption in Payne’s hotel room, indicating that he may have been actively using drugs during his final days.
The presence of this pipe, along with other evidence, pointed to an ongoing struggle with substance abuse.
Additionally, Buenos Aires police reported that they found the hotel room in a state of chaos after Payne’s fall.
Hotel staff had alerted emergency services just minutes before, stating that the singer had been “trashing the room.”
When police entered, they discovered prescription drugs, energy supplements, and other over-the-counter medications scattered across the room.
Among the items were clonazepam, a prescription drug used to treat anxiety and panic disorders, as well as a bottle of whiskey, a lighter, and a cell phone, all of which were later recovered from the hotel’s internal courtyard, where Payne’s body was found.
