Liam Payne's grieving father kisses son's photos as he reads fan tributes at hotel where singer died

BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA: Liam Payne’s father, Geoff Payne, landed in Argentina on Friday, October 18, to confirm the identity of his son, who died after falling from the balcony of his hotel room on Wednesday.

Geoff visited the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires where the tragic incident took place. The grieving was seen kissing his son's pictures and reading fan tributes.

Geoff Payne spent eight minutes walking around a tree outside the hotel which was made into a makeshift memorial by Liam Payne's devastated fans. They pinned pictures of the former One Direction member and left tribute notes on the site.

Geoff removed his glasses to read notes written in English and picked up Liam's pictures to kiss them. He also thanked the crowd that gathered outside the hotel, as per LADbible. 

The fans celebrated Liam's life and legacy as they held candlelit vigils and sang his songs. 

Geoff was reportedly not allowed to enter the exact room where his son stayed in the hotel as it is still an active investigation scene. However, he was shown a room with a similar layout.

Liam Payne's family releases statement after singer's tragic death

Liam Payne's family released a statement on Thursday to the PA news agency after their son's tragic death.

It said, "We are heartbroken. Liam will forever live in our hearts and we’ll remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul. We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this awful time."

Liam's parents made a cameo in the 2013 concern film 'One Direction: This Is Us'. The late singer's mother, Karen Payne, said in the documentary that while seeing her son perform onstage fills her with pride, she and Geoff miss spending time with him amid his demanding work schedule.

The singer is survived by his parents, Geoff and Karen, two sisters, Ruth Gibbins and Nicola Payne, and seven-year-old son, Bear, whom he welcomed with his ex-girlfriend, Cheryl Cole.

Fans were emotional on seeing the late singer's father kiss his son's pictures and read fan tributes after arriving at the location where the former One Direction singer died.

One wrote, "May God help his Dad Mam and family at this very sad time. RIP Liam Payne," and another said, "Its so emotional and heartbreaking for a father to see his son like this."

A person expressed, "That must have been a heart-wrenching moment for Geoff Payne. R I P," while one added, "Heartbreaking. Bless Geoff."
