LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jennifer Garner's acting performance just a day after she and former husband Ben Affleck decided to divorce was so bad that she decided to apologize to the movie's director for it.

In Barry Sonnenfeld's new memoir, 'Best Possible Place, Worst Possible Time', the Hollywood director disclosed that the actress seemed "a little off" during the final day of shooting the 2016 film 'Nine Lives'.

An excerpt from the Daily Mail reveals that Barry Sonnenfeld recalled Jennifer Garner often traveling to Los Angeles to help Ben Affleck who was "having issues".

“Jennifer Garner is a beautiful person inside and out. Any time she could, she’d fly back to Los Angeles where she was dealing with her husband, Ben, who was having issues,” Sonnenfeld wrote in his memoir.

“On her last day of filming, Jennifer was a little off. We were in a grand ballroom with hundreds of extras. I took her to the side of the room and asked if everything was okay,” Sonnenfeld further added.

“She apologized for not being at her best. Ben and Jennifer had the night before decided to get a divorce.”

The director of 'Men in Black' confessed that he "burst into tears" upon learning about Garner's separation. Reportedly, she consoled Sonnenfeld, assuring him: “It’s going to be okay. It’s for the best.”

“I don’t know who was more confused,” Sonnenfeld wrote.

“The 300 extras who wondered what that nice Ms Garner had said to Mr Barry to make him so upset, or Jennifer herself who was forced into the role of the calm person after, somehow, I had become the injured party in this discussion.”

Jennifer Garner shares three children with ex-husband Ben Affleck

In the film 'Nine Lives', Jennifer Garner portrayed Lara Brand, the spouse of a wealthy businessman who ends up trapped in the body of his daughter's cat. The comedy was released in 2016, which was two years prior to her divorce with Ben Affleck being finalized.

The duo, who wed in 2005, share three children: Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12. Since 2018, Garner has been in a relationship with businessman John Miller.

Despite their separation, the '13 Going on 30' actress has continued to be supportive of her former husband's renewed and subsequently ended romance with Jennifer Lopez.

Affleck and Lopez rekindled their romance in early 2021, almost two decades after their initial engagement in 2002. They declared their re-engagement in April 2022 and exchanged vows three months afterward in a private ceremony in Las Vegas.

After two years, Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck in August 2024.
