Lizzo calls Beyonce a 'once in a lifetime' superstar in tribute post
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Singer Lizzo recently praised fellow music icon Beyoncé in a social media post on Monday, May 25, calling her talent “generational” and describing her as a “once in a lifetime” superstar while reflecting on her lasting impact on the music industry.
Lizzo recently returned to X after taking a break from social media to address growing negativity on the platform. Over the years, she has also spoken about how Beyoncé’s support and music helped her through one of the most difficult periods of her life following multiple lawsuits and intense public backlash that affected her mental health and career.
Exactly— I don’t think yall understand how GENERATIONAL Beyonce’s talent is. We are witnessing a kind of superstar that’s once in a lifetime. I forever Stan— OG beyhive https://t.co/zTCVoZ6Q74

Lizzo credits Beyoncé for helping her through depression
Lizzo wrote on X, “Exactly— I don’t think yall understand how GENERATIONAL Beyonce’s talent is. We are witnessing a kind of superstar that’s once in a lifetime. I forever Stan— OG beyhive.” Her comments came after returning to the social media platform following a difficult period after the 2023 lawsuits.
In August that year, three former backup dancers from 'Lizzo’s Big Grrrl' tour filed a harassment lawsuit accusing the singer of creating a toxic work environment, weight-shaming, and pressuring them into uncomfortable situations.
A second lawsuit was later filed by former stylist Asha Daniels, who alleged racism and bullying in her team. While several claims were dismissed in 2024, the dancers’ lawsuit was allowed to proceed.
Reflecting on the aftermath, she admitted the controversy pushed her into severe depression and isolation. “I got very paranoid and isolated,” she said in an interview. “I wasn't even talking to my therapist. I wasn't present. I wasn't open. I wasn't myself anymore.”
The singer revealed she reached a point where she questioned the value of continuing life. “It got to the point where I was like, ‘I could die.’ I never attempted to kill myself or thought about it, but I did think, if everyone hates you and thinks you’re a terrible person, then what's the point?”
Lizzo said attending Beyoncé’s 'Renaissance' tour in 2023 changed her perspective completely. Though she feared being booed by the audience, she instead received overwhelming support. “It made me feel like, wow, maybe I don’t want to die. Life is worth living,” she shared, adding that the concert motivated her to “take your life back.”
Beyonce’s public support and Lizzo’s continued defense of Jay-Z
During the 'Renaissance' tour, Beyoncé gave Lizzo a special shout-out while performing 'Break My Soul (The Queens Remix),' displaying her name on the stadium screens among influential Black female artists. She later shared an emotional Instagram post recalling how she cried during the tribute.
“In that moment I was thinking about baby me, listening to 'Happy Face' by Destiny’s Child and crying myself to sleep because of bullies,” she wrote, before thanking her and calling the moment “an honor.”
Lizzo has publicly praised her for years. During her 2023 Grammy Awards acceptance speech for Record of the Year for 'About Damn Time,' which beat Beyoncé’s 'Break My Soul,' she dedicated part of her speech to the superstar.
She recalled skipping fifth-grade literature class with her sister to watch her perform and said, “You clearly are the artist of our lives!” Earlier this year, Lizzo again faced backlash after defending rapper Jay-Z in a TikTok video discussing the Epstein files.
The singer criticized online users for assuming guilt simply because a person’s name appeared in documents connected to a convicted offender. “Just because somebody’s name is mentioned in a 3 million document file… doesn’t mean that every single person isn’t an accomplice,” Lizzo said in the since-deleted video.
The post drew criticism online, with some accusing the singer of trying to stay in the rapper's “good graces.”
