'Love is Blind’s Sara Carton leaves Ben Mezzenga at altar over politics, says he never thought about BLM

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The latest season of 'Love is Blind' has sparked a heated debate after Sara Carton, a standout contestant and oncology nurse, went viral for leaving her fiance, Ben Mezzenga, at the altar over their political differences. 

In the Season 8 finale, Carton made the decision to walk away from their wedding due to conflicting views on issues like Black Lives Matter, gay marriage, and the vaccine. The dramatic moment has since ignited a viral reaction on social media, with some MAGA influencers blasting Carton for ending the relationship over politics.

Sara Carton recalls conversation with Ben Mezzenga about political views

Sara Carton and Ben Mezzenga stood at the altar, both dressed to the nines, moments away from exchanging vows when Carton explained why she couldn’t go through with the marriage.

With heartfelt sincerity, she told him, “I love you so much, but I’ve always wanted a partner to be on the same wavelength. And so today, I can’t [marry you].”

She went on to say, “My heart is there. But when we talked about a lot of the values that I hold so close to my heart, making this decision, my mind is telling me I can’t.”

Leaving the ceremony with her mother and sister, Carton further revealed that Mezzenga’s political views were a key factor in her decision.

“I remember I asked him about Black Lives Matter,” she recalled. “And I’m no expert. But when I asked him about it, he’s like, ‘I guess I never really thought too much about it'. That affected me! … How could it not? How did it not make you think about something?”

Carton also mentioned their conversation about his church’s stance on sexual identity, noting that he had little to say on the matter. “I want someone to think about that stuff,” she added.

In an interview with People, Carton clarified that her decision wasn’t just about Mezzenga’s specific views but about his lack of engagement with political issues. She explained, "There was no curiosity coming from his side… People prove who they are, actions speak louder than words. You can say anything you want, but show me. That would’ve changed everything if he really showed priority."

The clip of Sara Carton walking out on Ben Mezzenga quickly went viral, particularly among right-wing circles, with MAGA influencers criticizing her for ending a promising relationship over politics and claiming that Mezzenga would be better off without her.

Laura Ingraham, host of 'The Ingraham Angle' on Fox News, shared the clip on X, writing, "Let’s find him a nice, conservative 20-something girl.  He’ll look back and laugh at this."
