PARIS, FRANCE: In a recent interview with Indiewire, Lucas Bravo, who plays the beloved character Gabriel on the hit Netflix series 'Emily in Paris', opened up about the challenges he faced portraying his role throughout the seasons.

The French actor revealed that his connection with the character of Gabriel has significantly changed, particularly after the first season.

Bravo, who has been part of the show since its debut, expressed that the initial version of Gabriel felt very close to him, with a lot of his own personality reflected in the character.

Lucas Bravo on growing distant from Gabriel's evolving character

"The ‘s--- chef' was very much part of me in Season 1," Bravo admitted. However, as the show progressed, the character's journey and the choices made by the writers led Bravo to feel more distant from Gabriel.

"We grew apart season after season because of the choices he makes and because of the direction they make him take," Bravo added. In particular, Bravo shared his frustration with how Gabriel’s character has evolved.

In earlier seasons, Gabriel was depicted as charming and confident but by later seasons, Bravo felt that the character had become somewhat lost and passive, often portrayed as unaware of his surroundings, easily manipulated, and constantly playing the victim.

"In Season 1, there was a lot of me in him. But as they made him kind of unaware of his surroundings, of the dynamic, always victimizing and always being completely lost in translation and oblivious to anything that is happening around him," he explained.

He went on to say, "Being manipulated by everyone, it kind of became not fun for me to shoot or to see a character I love so much and brought me so much, being slowly turned into guacamole. I really grew apart from him."

The actor also revealed that his contract with 'Emily in Paris' ended after Season 4, leading to further uncertainty about his future with the show. Bravo hinted that he may not return for Season 5, given the unresolved frustrations with his character's arc.

"I really want to see if Gabriel gets back to his fun, cheeky, playful, alive self. Because three seasons playing melancholic, sad, depressed, and lost is not fun anymore. It's a comedy, everybody is having fun around me, everybody is jumping around, and I'm just slowly sinking into god knows what," Bravo said.
