LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Iconic pop star Madonna is no stranger to spectacle and controversy, but even the 'Material Girl' herself was caught off guard this week. Ticket distributor Ticketmaster baffled fans and irked the singer's team when it erroneously claimed  that her upcoming Boston tour dates were "postponed."

Madonna's representatives rushed to refute the ticket purveyor's message, confirming that the Boston shows would proceed as scheduled. Still, the incident gave critics of the star plenty of fodder for mocking her online.

Madonna's representatives refute Ticketmaster's postponement claims

Confusion spread among Madonna fans this week when Ticketmaster displayed a message claiming the pop icon's upcoming Boston shows as part of her 'Celebration Tour' were postponed.

The notification stated, "The Event Organizer has had to postpone your event," leading many to believe the January 8th and 9th concerts at TD Garden had been delayed.

However, Madonna's representatives were quick to refute Ticketmaster's postponement claims, telling media outlets that the Boston shows would go on as scheduled. "The shows are not postponed or canceled and she'll be in Boston Jan. 8-9 for her two scheduled shows at TD Garden," a rep for the legendary performer told TMZ.

It remains unclear why Ticketmaster issued the false postponement notice. The ticket sales and distribution giant is yet to release an official statement on the incident.

Internet mocks Madonna over postponement confusion

While Madonna's team worked to clear up the Ticketmaster confusion, the internet wasted no time in mocking the star over the situation. Critics were quick to allege that low ticket sales were the actual reason behind the claimed postponements.

One user on Facebook expressed, "Lol no she's running into the same problem she ran into last year when she tried to do a tour...couldn't sell tickets and the venue cancelled bc of it...I think the fact that she shows up whenever she feels like it and ppl have heard about how she's acting in recent yrs combined with the fact she hasn't put out a hit since 2010 has something to do with it."

Another individual recounted a similar experience, stating, "Sounds familiar to me. Postponed the event here in Tulsa, OK. Then to be just canceled all together. I'm not privy to any inside information, but word on the streets that there weren't enough ticket sales to do it differently."

A third user voiced their disinterest, commenting, "Wouldn't pay to see her anyway." Meanwhile, speculation arose regarding ticket sales, with one person questioning, "Low Ticket Sales?"

A more comical take emerged with a user humorously quipping, "Madonna. Tupperware Face Hall of Fame."

However, not all comments were lighthearted, as another user harshly criticized, "She is garbage…. Scary looking now."

Madonna soldiering on despite tour postponements and illnesses

While naysayers take shots online, Madonna continues to soldier on with her tour despite past obstacles. The 35-city 'Celebration Tour' was originally slated to kick off in July 2023, only to face significant delays.

In June, the tour was postponed by several months after Madonna fell gravely ill with a bacterial infection that put her in a near-fatal coma for two days.

Since finally launching the tour in October, Madonna has powered through, though not without incident. Last week's Washington DC show saw an on-stage Santa Claus take a painful tumble during a holiday-themed dance routine.
