WASHINGTON, DC: Iran’s decision to reopen commercial passage through the Strait of Hormuz during the ongoing ceasefire sparked triumphant reactions across pro-Trump circles Friday, April 17, with several MAGA-aligned voices declaring the development a major win for President Donald Trump.

The reopening of the crucial oil route also coincided with a sharp drop in crude prices, fueling claims that Trump’s pressure campaign had succeeded without dragging the US into a bigger war.

Trump also celebrated the move on Truth Social, writing, “IRAN HAS JUST ANNOUNCED THAT THE STRAIT OF IRAN IS FULLY OPEN AND READY FOR FULL PASSAGE. THANK YOU!”

His post was rapidly shared by allies who highlighted the moment as proof that critics had misread both the conflict and Trump’s strategy.

MAGA figures hail Trump's strategy

Conservative commentator Benny Johnson posted an extended video mocking those who doubted Trump’s handling of the crisis.

“You hate to say we were right,” Johnson said, adding that many people had “lost their damn minds” over Trump’s “risky gambit in Iran.”

He praised the latest developments, saying, “Iran opens the Strait of Hormuz, oil down to $83 a barrel.”

Johnson added, “World War III and economic apocalypse deferred yet again,” while arguing that “plan trusters win again.”

Johnson also claimed the reopening was driving markets higher, saying, “The stock market is flying through the roof,” and described it as “the single most important story in the world.”

Former co-deputy Director of the FBI Dan Bongino also mocked Trump critics in a post on X, writing, “So weird how the Media/Swamp class keep getting outsmarted by a guy they dump all day as their intellectual inferior.”

He added, “I’d rather side with someone ‘lucky,’ who wins, rather than zeroes who are unlucky and lose.”

Clay Travis called the administration’s approach “strategically brilliant.”

In a post on X, he wrote, “It crippled Iran economically, ended the ridiculous media Iran ‘control’ narrative, increased our negotiating leverage immensely, and had zero cost.”

CNN contributor Scott Jennings reacted sarcastically to plunging oil prices, posting, “Last night I was assured that we are in a global energy crisis from which the world will never recover.”

Mark Levin also amplified Trump’s announcement by reposting the president’s message on reopening the strait.

Iran announces reopening of Strait of Hormuz

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced the reopening of the Strait, writing “The passage for all commercial vessels through Strait of Hormuz is declared completely open for the remaining period of ceasefire.”

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most vital energy chokepoints, handling a large share of global oil shipments.

In a separate post, Trump wrote, “Iran has agreed to never close the Strait of Hormuz again. It will no longer be used as a weapon against the World!”

In a subsequent post, the President added, “Iran, with the help of the USA has removed, or is removing, all sea mines!”
