WASHINGTON, DC: As Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's heated meeting with US President Donald Trump continues to make headlines, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's odd posture has drawn widespread mockery and criticism.

Seen slumped in his seat next to Vice President JD Vance in the Oval Office, Rubio appeared visibly uncomfortable as Trump berated Zelensky.

Observers, including labor journalists, Florida reporters, and writers, quickly took to social media to comment on Rubio’s posture and pained expression during the tense moment.

During a tense Oval Office press conference on Friday, February 28, which centered on a proposal for US mineral rights in Ukraine and potential security guarantees for Kyiv, a heated exchange occurred between Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Marco Rubio was seated to the right of Vance during the meeting.

As tensions rose between Trump and reporters, images of Rubio slouching with his hands clasped and a stone-faced expression began circulating on social media. Some commentators claimed Rubio appeared "embarrassed" by the press conference.



 

Influencer Pekka Kallioniemi shared a video clip of Rubio during the moment on X (formerly Twitter), joking, "'I've made a HUGE mistake' – Marco Rubio, probably."



 

Jim Newell, a senior politics writer at Slate, posted an image on X of Rubio looking displeased, writing, "How we doin bud?"



 

Meanwhile, CBS News reporter Kathryn Watson shared a close-up photo of Vance and Rubio on X, captioning it, "The contrast in body language between Vance and Rubio here."



 

Amid the ongoing conversation, Rubio took to X after the meeting to praise Trump for standing up for the US. 

He wrote, "Thank you @POTUS for standing up for America in a way that no President has ever had the courage to do before. Thank you for putting America First. America is with you!"

After seeing Marco Rubio's slumped posture during Donald Trump's meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky, many netizens quickly took to social media to comment on it.  

One wrote, "Rubio was sitting there like a little pathetic worm! I have never seen such a spineless Secretary of State in my life!!" and another said, "Little Marco Rubio sits and lets Vance who voted no on aid to Ukraine without a word. @SecRubio embarrassing."

"Shut up Marco. All you did was sit on the couch and look uncomfortable. Shouting at people you were supposed to be working on a treaty with isn’t strength. It’s stupid. It’s why we are laughing stocks. The GOP has made us look like a bunch of imbecile Americans," an individual fumed. 

Another enraged netizen expressed, "Look at our f*ing Secretary of State Marco Rubio just sitting there! Not moving a muscle, hands folded, head down and not even LOOKING at the abysmal behavior of trump/Vance!! Coward!!!!!"

"With no respect due, Rubio is a schill for a madman.  A useless idiot.  A spineless sack. He stands for Marco, not America," a person wrote. 

One more added, "Can someone please inform Marco Rubio what his job is? Because he did absolutely nothing when sitting there with Trump, Vance and Zelenskyy. In fact, he looked downright bored and miserable, since Vance had usurped his seat in the Oval Office. Rubio should be remediating."

One shared a picture of a woman with a slumped posture, captioning it, "same energy," in reference to Rubio's stance during the White House meeting.
