NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Former president Donald Trump decided to tout his "very good relationship" with Russian President Vladimir Putin standing next to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The GOP presidential nominee's remarks overlooked Zelensky's turmoil, whose country has been bearing the grunt of Russian invasion since 2022. The Ukrainian president met with Trump at the latter's Trump Tower in New York on Friday, September 27.

"We have a very good relationship," the real estate mogul said of Zelensky during a joint press conference, according to Daily Beast. "I also have a very good relationship, as you know, with President Putin," he added.

Being taken off guard by Trump touting his relationship with Ukraine's enemy, Zelensky interjected, saying, "I hope we have more good relations," prompting laughter from the MAGA leader.

"Oh I see, yeah. But you know it takes two to tango," Trump said, indicating the tension between them.

The 45th president has earlier threatened to cut US aid to Ukraine if reelected in November. During the Trump Tower meeting, he reiterated he would end the Russia-Ukraine conflict "very quickly" through a peace deal.

Zelensky, on the other hand, reasoned his meeting with Vice President Kamala Harris and Trump, admitting "we don’t know who will be the president" after November 5. He met with the Democratic presidential nominee on September 26.

During the press conference, Trump also brought up a phone call with Zelensky while he was in the White House that led to his first impeachment. In the phone call made in July 2019, the ex-president pressured his then-Ukrainian counterpart to investigate his 2020 election rival, Joe Biden.

Speaking to reporters at Trump Tower, the billionaire voiced his gratitude to Zelensky for remaining "like a piece of steel" during the first impeachment process, which involved withholding aid to Ukraine to launch a probe against his future successor.

"He could've grandstanded and played cute, but he didn't do that," Trump praised Zelensky. "He said, 'president Trump did absolutely nothing wrong.' He said it loud and clear, and the impeachment hoax died right there."

Internet slams Trump for bragging about his 'very good relationship' with Vladimir Putin

Netizens attacked Trump's lack of social skills for boasting about his relationship with Putin in the presence of Ukraine's Zelensky.

"Goodness, he's awful," a user said.

"Feel so sorry for Zelenskyy having to deal with that psychopath," another remarked.

"Why is he even meeting with the donOld loser??" a third user asked.

"Trump is so stupid - evil & stupid!" one user wrote.

"He is such a travesty of a person...," read a fifth response.

"Never ceases to be an embarrassment to the country…" someone else chimed in.

"I never want to see his stupid face or hear his stupid voice ever again.. why did he meet with Zelenskyy??? He was fired, people who are fired no longer take meetings," another user added.

"In addition to having absolutely zero awareness or social skills, he's also a legitimately horrible and moronic half-human," an individual said.
