Margot Robbie thought she'd go to jail for 'walloping' 'Wolf of Wall Street' co-star Leonardo DiCaprio
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Margot Robbie recently revealed that she thought she would be arrested for making the creative decision to slap Leonardo DiCaprio during her 'Wolf of Wall Street' audition instead of kissing him.
During her appearance on the 'Talking Pictures' podcast, the 'Barbie' star said that luckily the actor and the film's director Martin Scorsese loved her move, and she walked out of that audition not only to eventually land the role, but shackle-free, according to CNN.
Margot Robbie says she thought she would go to jail for 'walloping' Leonardo DiCaprio during audition
On the podcast, Margot Robbie shared that the scene they were rehearsing was meant to end in a kiss but she spontaneously thought of something different.
After DiCaprio read his last line, "Come over here and kiss me," Robbie found herself thinking, "In my head, I was like I could totally kiss Leonardo DiCaprio. That would be awesome. I can't wait to tell all of my friends this."
However, she had a change of mind, as she recalled, "And then I was like… nah. And just walloped him in the face. And it was dead silence for what felt like an eternity but was probably three seconds."
Robbie further recounted, "And then they just burst out laughing. Leo and Marty were laughing so hard, they said, 'That was great.'"
Despite the positive feedback, the actress feared the worst for her bold improvisation. She said, "I was like, 'You're going to get arrested, I'm pretty sure that's assault, battery.' Not only will you never work again, but actually you will go to jail for this, you idiot. And also, why did you have to do it so hard? You could have done it lighter."
Margot Robbie listened to 'Titanic' music to cry on 'Wolf of Wall Street' set
Margot Robbie also shared that she used to listen to the theme music of 'Titanic' whenever she needed to cry on the 'Wolf of Wall Street' set. She recounted, "I can even just hear the theme music of ‘Titanic,’ and I’ll be bawling. And so that’s what I do on set if I need to cry in a scene."
The actress noted that her method led to a "surreal" experience on one particular occasion. Robbie said, "On 'Wolf of Wall Street', there was the big, crazy scene after I ask for a divorce and stuff. And Kate Winslet came to visit set, to visit Leo [DiCaprio] that day."
She added, "I was in the room next to them, listening to the ‘Titanic’ soundtrack trying to stay in sad, teary mode. And then I saw Kate Winslet and Leo walk past. It was very surreal," as per Variety.
In 'The Wolf of Wall Street', DiCaprio portrayed the disgraced stockbroker Jordan Belfort, while Robbie starred as his wife, Naomi Lapaglia.
