WASHINGTON, DC: Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene pushed back against online reports claiming she told confidants about plans to run for president in 2028.

Over the past year, Greene has worked to reinvent her political image while becoming increasingly outspoken in her criticism of the Republican Party and its leadership. Read on to learn more about the rumors and how Greene responded to them.

Marjorie Taylor Greene denies 2028 presidential bid rumors

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene used an X post to debunk rumors that she plans to run for president in 2028. She began the post by writing, “Here’s my text response to Reese Gorman at Notus. Apparently Notus is a gossip blog, shame on the editor. 'Sources.'”

Greene continued, “Congress needs to go back in session because DC reporters are bored and desperate. And I would like to pass bills and appropriations for my current job.”

She also shared a screenshot of a text she sent to NOTUS, which had published the article about her potential presidential run. In the text, she wrote, “So I just saw you posted a baseless article and did not reach out to Ty Sharpe, my comms team. Who is your source? Laura Loomer? She claimed I was running for governor last week and announcing it in 'The View.' Once again, you publish baseless gossip. Very disappointing.” She added, “Don’t text me again.”

Greene also reposted a tweet from Chief White House Correspondent Brian Glenn, which said, “MTG has NO plans to run for President in 2028.” He then confirmed, “I am your source. Thank you for your attention to this matter.”

The congresswoman also shared a statement with Daily Mail: “Last week, it was rumored that I was planning to run for Governor of Georgia. This week it’s rumored I am running for President. I’m committed to one thing: serving the best district in the nation, Georgia’s 14th.”

What rumors have circulated about MTG’s plans to run for president?

NOTUS reported that Greene “has confided to colleagues that she wants to run for president, according to four sources familiar with the matter, including one who has spoken with her directly about it."

The article added, “One source says her conversations have centered around her belief she is ‘real MAGA and that the others have strayed,’ adding that she believes she has ‘the national donor network to win the primary.’”

The sources also pointed to Greene’s recent media appearances on CNN, 'The View,' and 'Real Time with Bill Maher' as evidence that she is trying to reach a broader national audience beyond the hardcore MAGA base.

She also appeared on comedian Tim Dillon’s podcast, where she dodged a question about running in 2028. Greene said, “Oh my goodness. I hate politics so much, Tim. People are saying that, and I’ve seen a few people saying ‘she’s running’… What I’m doing right now is I very much want to fix problems. That’s honestly all I care about.”

Marjorie Taylor Greene escalates GOP criticism amid 2028 rumors

The rumors gained traction as Marjorie Taylor Greene criticized Republican leadership in both the White House and Capitol Hill following her recent opposition to President Trump and Speaker Mike Johnson.

She has also become a leading advocate for Jeffrey Epstein’s victims on Capitol Hill. Greene has criticized her party for failing to address the expiring Affordable Care Act (ACA) subsidies, which are set to end this year.

She wrote on X, “Let’s just say as nicely as possible, I’m not a fan [of the ACA]. But I’m going to go against everyone on this issue because when the tax credits expire this year my own adult children’s insurance premiums for 2026 are going to DOUBLE, along with all the wonderful families and hard-working people in my district."
