MANHATTAN, NEW YORK: Legendary actor Mark Hamill delivered a satirical "breaking news" update for Independence Day, taking aim at the Supreme Court and former President Donald Trump.

"After vastly expanding Presidential power, Supreme Court now considers moving #IndependenceDay to January 6th,” the 'Star Wars' star tweeted on X, alluding to the infamous Capitol riot by Trump supporters attempting to overturn the 2020 election results.

Earlier this week, the Supreme Court ruled in favor of Trump in the January 6th case by granting presidents broad immunity for official acts while in office, a decision that critics such as MSNBC's Rachel Maddow have criticized as "a death-squad ruling."

According to NBC News, the Supreme Court's decision on presidential immunity is expected to cause further delays in former President Donald Trump's criminal case in Washington related to his efforts to halt the transfer of power leading up to the January 6th attack on the US Capitol.

This delay virtually ensures that Trump's trial will not commence before Election Day.

Hamill's tweet featured an image of an upside-down US flag, a symbol of distress that gained traction among Trump supporters after the 2020 election.

The upside-down US flag was notably flown at the home of Supreme Court Associate Justice Samuel Alito in early 2021.

Martha-Ann Alito, his wife, stated that she displayed the flag in response to neighbors who had posted anti-Trump signs.

What is the significance of the upside-down flag?

In 2021, a young couple contacted the police for assistance with a dispute involving Martha-Ann Alito, wife of Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito, centered around an upside-down American flag outside their Virginia home.

Emily Baden, who had moved in with her boyfriend during the pandemic, encountered issues after posting anti-Trump signs following the 2020 election. Martha-Ann Alito found the signs offensive, leading to a tense exchange.

Following the January 6 Capitol attack, Baden displayed more critical signs, which her mother later removed.

By January 17, 2021, an upside-down flag was displayed outside the Alitos' home, symbolizing far-right beliefs about the election being stolen from Trump.

Delving deeper into the topic, an individual elaborated, "You lost your mind … or you were a frequent visitor on Epstein Island." [sic]
