Matty Healy seemingly hints Taylor Swift’s ‘Guilty as Sin?’ is about him and Swifties can't keep calm
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Matty Healy is rekindling a rumor that die-hard Swifties have long speculated, at least, since the release of 'The Tortured Poets Department' in April!
While it remains unproven, fans are convinced that Matty Healy just dropped a clue, seemingly confirming a long-standing rumor of Taylor Swift composing her ‘Guilty as Sin?’ track from ‘The Tortured Poets Department’ for the 1975 frontman.
When the ‘TTPD’ was released earlier this year in April, Swifties wondered whether ‘Guilty as Sin?’ was inspired by Healy, who had a brief summer romance with the 14-time Grammy winner in 2023 after her break up from her boyfriend of six years, Joe Alwyn.
While neither Swift nor Healy confirmed anything about the ‘TTPD’ song, on Monday, November 18, the 35-year-old singer left Swifties a hint to ponder over.
Matty Healy shares ‘Downtown Lights’ on his Instagram Story
On Monday, Matty Healy shared Annie Lenox’s version of ‘Downtown Lights’ by The Blue Nile on the Instagram Story of his alter ego Truman Black, with the caption, “If you don’t know this cover, you are welcome.”
However, his song selection raised quite a few eyebrows as the song is referenced in Swift’s ‘TTPD’ song ‘Guilty as Sin?’
Swift famously sang in the opening verses of the fan-favorite song, “Drowning in the Blue Nile, he sent me ‘Downtown Lights’,” Swift, 34, sings in the song’s opening lines.
Elsewhere in the song, Swift goes on to sing about longing for someone “without ever touching his skin,” while questioning whether it’s “bad or mad or wise” to have “fatal fantasies” about this person, as reported by Us Weekly.
Healy previously admitted his love for the ’80s Scottish band The Blue Nile and their song 'Downtown Lights' during an interview with Vulture in 2016. The 'About You' singer said, “The Blue Nile are my favorite band of all time. They’re f***ing amazing. Musically, they’ve inspired me so much," according to Elle.
