Megan Thee Stallion slams Gayle King for asking intimate details about her relationship with Tory Lanez
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Megan Thee Stallion is finally opening up about that tense interview with Gayle King, and let’s just say she had some serious steam to blow off.
In her new Amazon Prime documentary 'Megan Thee Stallion: In Her Words', the artiste spills on a question that caught her off guard during a 2022 CBS Mornings interview with Gayle.
While Megan was there to talk about the 2020 incident where Tory Lanez shot her, Gayle dropped a very different question: Did Megan have a sexual relationship with Tory?
Megan Thee Stallion pushes back on Gayle King
In the doc, Megan Thee Stallion shares just how frustrating that moment was. “Why is you asking me about f*****g Tory?” she says. “That’s not what this is about. Even if I was.”
Megan felt Gayle’s question took the conversation somewhere it didn’t need to go, especially when she was there to talk about her trauma and not her love life.
Eventually, Megan does admit in the documentary that she and Tory hooked up “like once, maybe twice on a drunk night.” But at the time of the interview, she wasn’t trying to talk about that. It wasn’t what the interview was supposed to be about, and she didn’t want to bring more personal stuff into what was already a messy situation.
Megan didn’t exactly hold back when she looked back on the interview in her documentary. “Yes, b****h. I lied to Gayle King, b****h,” Megan says, laughing a little at her bluntness. She explains that she wasn’t trying to hide anything but just wanted to focus on what mattered: the shooting, not her private choices.
“First of all, I ain’t know that b****h was even finna ask me about that s**t,” Megan adds. “I thought we was gonna talk about this shooting.”
At that time, Megan was still trying to wrap her mind around everything and didn’t see how her past with Tory was relevant. She just wanted to talk about the situation at hand without any extra drama.
The fallout and public backlash
Gayle King hasn’t commented on Megan Thee Stallion’s remarks in the documentary, and E! News reached out to her reps but hasn’t heard back at the time of publication. Meanwhile, that interview kept the Tory Lanez shooting case in the public eye.
“What was the nature of your relationship with Tory Lanez because he has led people to believe that it was a sexual relationship," Gayle asked Megan on CBS Mornings, "that you two were dating? What was the nature?”
Megan responded that they were "not dating" but were "really close" pals who "hung out, like, every day," but the veteran TV host pressed further. "Did you have an intimate relationship with him?” Gayle reiterated, to which the 29-year-old replied, “Like sexual? Um, I didn’t have a sexual relationship with Tory.”
Megan came clean about the hookup in court eight months later, explaining to the jury that she wasn’t upfront with Gayle. Unfortunately, that confession led to some nasty backlash. Online trolls and critics took this as an opportunity to question her story and drag her through the mud.
Megan opened up in an interview with Women’s Health about how rough it’s been for her.
"A lot of people didn't treat me like I was human for a long time," she shared in the April interview. "I feel like everybody was always used to me being the fun and happy party girl. I watched people build me up, tear me down, and be confused about their expectations of me."
Tory Lanez’s sentence and his side of story
Meanwhile, Tory Lanez’s side has kept fighting the verdict. Despite being sentenced to 10 years in prison for three felony counts, discharging a firearm with gross negligence, assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and carrying an unregistered gun in a vehicle, Tory’s still pushing back.
He’s appealed the case and declared in an Instagram post after the trial: “Regardless of how they spin my words, I have always maintained my innocence and I always will.”
