Meghan Markle’s 2016 grilling lettuce tip resurfaces ahead of Netflix cooking show launch
MONTECITO, CALIFORNIA: Meghan Markle’s much-anticipated cooking show has finally received a release date, and will be dropping on Netflix on January 15. This is, however, not her first foray into cooking.
Amid the frenzy of the Duchess of Sussex’s new cooking show, an old clip from 2016 has resurfaced where the then ‘Suits’ actress suggested grilling lettuce to have an elevated taste in salad.
After months of speculation, Meghan is finally coming on Netflix with her cooking show, titled ‘With Love, Meghan’. However, previously in 2016, the mother-of-two appeared on ‘The Today Show’ during a special cooking segment to make grilled Caesar salad with shrimp, as reported by Daily Mail.
Meghan Markle’s cooking tips from 2016 resurfaces
Prior to launching her cooking show and her brand American Orchard Riviera, Meghan Markle ran a lifestyle blog, The Tig, which she closed after getting associated with the British Royal Family.
In 2016, she appeared in a short cooking segment of 'The Today Show' to share her best cooking tips. The segment was hosted by former NBC host Matt Lauer, who was later fired from the channel in 2017 amid multiple accusations.
Nevertheless, the video showed Meghan preparing “easy” and “yummy” handheld salad boats. Meanwhile, Meghan’s core philosophy, of enhancing something ordinary has remained the same in her latest project as well, as her new show too promises to “elevate the ordinary.”
In the Today segment, referencing her recipe, the duchess explained, “It's really simple. We're just going to do a nice grilled romaine salad with shrimp on it.”
“So we have Italian seasoning, red chilli flakes, honey, you can do any sort of dressing you want,” Meghan continued in the segment which was filmed in the same year when she started dating Prince Harry.
She started by marinating the shrimp and added olive oil, lemon, and salt. While Meghan advised her viewers to leave the marinaded shrimp in the fridge for an hour, she suggested bringing it to room temperature before cooking.
Further, Meghan suggested her viewers grill the lettuce to bring the optimum flavor to the salad.
“This is what I love,” continued the actress, before adding, “You can grill lettuce and it has the most amazing flavor.” “It holds up. You can grill radicchio, kale, whatever you want,” added Meghan.
The duchess helpfully suggested, “You want to halve it lengthwise so that it ends up still keeping that base on there because ultimately you can end up holding it like a hand-held salad.”
As she put everything on the grill, Lauer admitted he “hadn’t heard” of anyone grilling lettuce further.
“They're going to cook really quickly, but again because it's a sturdy lettuce it's not going to break down,” explained the duchess, adding, “You'll get a nice char mark.”
“It makes this little boat shape so it's really easy to fill in. They're really yummy and so easy!” explained the then actress while assembling the salad.
