Meghan Markle’s beige Christmas collection draws scrutiny over past comments on royal wardrobe rules
MONTECITO, CALIFORNIA: Meghan Markle is facing backlash over her latest holiday collection video from her lifestyle brand, As Ever.
After she shared a video showcasing a beige-themed Christmas scene, many called out the muted aesthetic as ironic, given her past comments about royal dress rules.
Meghan Markle’s remarks on being restricted to neutral tones as a working royal
Meghan Markle posted a video on Instagram in which she places a gift into a beige‑and‑brown stocking amid neutral-toned Christmas decor.
She captioned the post, “Oh, we see you! Not even Thanksgiving yet, and you’ve already got this in the bag,” while wearing an olive-colored dress.
The understated holiday palette led many to reference her past claims as a working royal, when she said she was restricted to neutral tones.
In her 2022 Netflix series, 'Harry & Meghan', she explained that she “rarely wore color” in the UK because royal protocol prevented her from matching the queen or other senior royals.
She added that "wearing muted tones was not about standing out; instead, she wore them so she could just blend in.”
Internet says Meghan Markle 'managed to suck the fun out of Christmas'
The understated holiday palette sparked widespread reaction on social media, with critics calling the design “pretentious” and “a very big miss.”
A user remarked on the color scheme, “She is cosplaying Kim Kardashians love of minimumalism with color. Markle doesnt have an original idea.”

Commenting on the overall aesthetic, another person posted, “A color scheme can be a beautiful thing, but a Christmas one based on the color brown is tricky as all get out! She and the artistic team missed the mark in a very big way w/this pretentious attempt at chicness.”
(To begin with, calling the color brown beige is inaccurate.)

Addressing the lack of traditional festive colors, another netizen observed, “Where are the Christmas colors? Where is the festiveness? Where’s the ‘Merry and bright’? This is bland, beige, boring browns.”
Where are the Christmas colors? Where is the festiveness? Where’s the “Merry and bright”? This is bland, beige, boring browns. There is not one thing that says “holiday cheer” in this clip. It’s depressing, unseasoned manila envelope drabness. #MeghanMarkle #AsEver… pic.twitter.com/EIxRbTSxte
