Meghan Markle's father Thomas reveals she asked him to 'cut off' his other children but he refused
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Thomas Markle claimed his estranged daughter and Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle once asked him to cut ties with his other children, in an interview with the Daily Mail published on Saturday, January 4.
He reportedly rejected the idea, and at present has not been in contact with Meghan since before her royal wedding in 2018. According to The Mirror US, Thomas has yet to meet his son-in-law Prince Harry as well as his grandchildren, Archie, 5, and Lilibet, 3.
Thomas Markle on Meghan Markle's alleged demand
Thomas Markle opened up about his complex family dynamics in a candid Daily Mail interview, stating, "Meghan once told me she wanted me to stop talking to Tom Jr and Samantha, my children from my first marriage. But what parent could ever agree to that?"
While he did not give in to her demand to ditch her half-siblings, Thomas remained affectionate while reflecting on his bond with the 'Suits' star.
"There were good times. She was a good girl. I don't like some of the things my daughter has done but I will always love her," he said. "My door is always open to her. I love her and that will never change. I love all my children."
Thomas Markle on not attending Meghan Markle's royal wedding
Thomas Markle reportedly missed the royal wedding of his daughter on account of suffering two heart attacks on the eve of the ceremony. On May 19, 2018, King Charles escorted Meghan down the aisle at Windsor Castle, to marry the younger son of his and the late Princess Diana, Prince Harry.
While he remains grateful to Charles for accompanying her daughter on her special day, Thomas is "baffled" by his belief that Meghan blames him for missing her wedding.
After being discharged from a hospital following his heart scare and being warned by his doctor not to travel, Thomas had opted to watch his daughter's wedding in a rented Airbnb.
On the subject of sharing grandchildren with King Charles, Thomas stated, "I'm a grandfather and he is King of England – but he too is a grandfather who would like to see his grandkids."
