MONTECITO, CALIFORNIA: According to a shocking new Vanity Fair expose, Meghan Markle's team pitched a book on her life "post-divorce" from Prince Harry—although the two are still together.

A source revealed to Vanity Fair on Friday, January 17, that people who work with the Duchess of Sussex spoke with an unidentified publishing house to "gauge interest" in the book's concept.

Meghan Markle's team pitched publisher on concept of 'post-Harry divorce book'

The shocking Vanity Fair report explored the Duke and Duchess of Sussex's faltering business endeavors and presents a heartbreaking image of a desperate couple attempting to stay relevant and find meaning after leaving the royal life.

The precise time of discussion with the publisher is not known. However, the source asserted that the book would not have been about "life after marital dissolution, or one about Meghan’s past experience" with divorce.

The source reportedly explained that the book was intended to focus on her split with Harry rather than Meghan's first husband, Trevor Engelson, whom the 'Suits' star divorced in 2014, per Page Six.

According to the source, the purpose of the meeting was to determine whether the publisher would "theoretically be interested" in a book about the potential divorce, rather than to confirm that the Sussexes were genuinely going to separate.

The insider did not reveal the name of the publisher to whom the concept was allegedly floated or the date on which Meghan's team put out the notion.

Another insider claimed that the meeting actually happened, while Vanity Fair explained that "no written or formal proposal" for the book ever materialized, per the New York Post.

Instead of refuting the existence of the conversation, a second source noted, "If that’s true to any degree, [Markle] would have been approached and not vice versa."

According to earlier reports, the Sussexes have a four-book agreement with Penguin Random House. To date, Meghan has only published a children's book.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry rumored to be having marital problems for a few months

There had been rumors of marital problems between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex for a few months before the "post-divorce" book speculation.

Following Harry's several public appearances without his wife in 2024, there were rumors that the couple was separating. Fans and royal experts noticed that the married couple had not appeared together for nearly a month in October 2024.

At the time, royal author Angela Levin described Markle and Harry's working relationship as being "in a very bad state."

"They say they’re going to work separately, then they say they’re buying a house in Portugal — you don’t do that if you don’t want to separate for most of the time, so I wonder if it’s in a very bad state," she said at the time.

Harry responded to the rumors at the 2024 DealBook Summit hosted by the New York Times in December by stating, "Apparently we’ve bought or moved house 10, 12 times. We’ve apparently divorced maybe 10, 12 times as well. So it’s just like, what?’"

"It’s hard to keep up with, but that’s why you just sort of ignore it. The people I feel most sorry about are the trolls," he added.

While Meghan remained in Montecito, Harry took a solo journey to New York to see celebrities and royals before traveling alone to Britain in September.

Moreover, the Vanity Fair article claimed that residents in their hometown of Montecito have denounced Harry and Meghan as the "most entitled, disingenuous people on the planet," per Daily Mail.

According to celebrity analyst Lainey Gossip, the most frequent critique of Harry and Meghan is that "you can't cherry-pick the good parts and leave out the bad parts" of being famous.

Another insider told Vanity Fair that the Sussexes are "so hot for each other" despite all the commotion.

"Like, you know how you meet those couples where you’re like, the way they’re looking at each other, I should probably not be here right now?" the source said.
