NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Megyn Kelly lashed out at actor Tom Hanks for participating in a 'Saturday Night Live' sketch where he portrayed President Donald Trump's MAGA voters as "worth-nothing racists".

Notably, she mentioned that the 'Forrest Gump' star's skit during SNL's 50th anniversary special on Sunday, February 16, was a betrayal of the audience that helped him become a Hollywood icon, according to the New York Post.

Megyn Kelly takes a dig at Tom Hanks for his 'SNL' special skit

During the Tuesday, February 18, episode of the SiriusXM podcast 'The Megyn Kelly Show', the former Fox News host said, "Shame on him. I'm sure Tom Hanks is worth a billion dollars."

Kelly continued, "And you know who got it for him? All of us… who went to see 'Forrest Gump', 'Big', and all the fun Tom Hanks movies and never once thought that he was judging them as stupid, rural, worth-nothing racists."

She also mentioned that the veteran actor had carefully avoided divisive roles throughout his career and his turn on 'SNL' made it all the more surprising.

Kelly said, "It was shocking to see somebody who tries so carefully not to be too divisive in his choices to come right out and suggest he thinks Trump supporters are racists. Shame on him."

During the 'SNL' special, the 'Finch' actor reprised his role as Doug, a MAGA-supporting character from the recurring 'Black Jeopardy' skit, per the outlet.

Notably, Doug, who was originally introduced in 2016, was a caricature of a rural, Trump-voting American who found few common ground with Black contestants on the fictional game show.

During the skit, Hanks wore a red MAGA hat, and an American flag T-shirt, along with a thick Southern drawl as he spoke with Kenan Thompson, who portrayed the role of host Darnell Hayes.

The sketch also had Eddie Murphy, Tracy Morgan, and Leslie Jones as contestants, before Hanks came in for Murphy and hesitated to shake hands with Thompson but finally gave in.

Tom Hanks' portrayal faced backlash as many conservatives denounced it as an outdated and offensive stereotype, per the outlet.

Internet sides with Megyn Kelly as she slams Tom Hanks

Several internet users agreed with Megyn Kelly as she slammed Tom Hanks for participating in an 'SNL' sketch where he portrayed President Donald Trump's MAGA voters as "worth-nothing racists".

A user wrote on X, "On board with that, give it to him. He owes us a profound apology," while one added, "Truth! Funny how these Hollywood somebodies were once nobodies. But when they got there, somehow they forgot where they came from and the people they grew up with."

A person also stated, "Tom has gone to the Robert Deniro, Michael Keaton, Mark Hamil, Mark Ruffalo school of how to kill my career with my political opinions," whereas one mentioned, "He made millions of dollars with the support of many patriotic American citizens, and he judged & denigrated the majority of them. Lost so much respect for him... I pray he wakes up."

A user also wrote, "Well, he’s been done in this house for some time. We don’t need him or his opinions. He’s got a lot of bad skeletons in his closet and I pray he’s finally exposed," while one commented, "I'll never watch another movie of his again. It doesn't make sense to me why someone in that industry would alienate 50% of their audience!"
