Melania Trump set to resurface after weeks away as Natalie Harp stays close to Trump
WASHINGTON, DC: First lady Melania Trump is expected to return to public view Thursday as Natalie Harp has become a near-constant presence alongside President Donald Trump, according to a report.
Melania has been largely out of public view for weeks, while Harp has accompanied Trump on nearly every outing throughout August.
The expected appearance is scheduled for a White House Rose Garden event tied to Melania's Fostering the Future initiative.
Melania Trump is set to appear Thursday
Melania's expected return comes after she was last seen July 19 at the FIFA World Cup Final in New Jersey, according to the Daily Beast report published Wednesday, August 19.
The first lady was expected to join Trump for an event announcing a "groundbreaking alliance" involving Fox Corp, IndyCar, Indiana University and Purdue University, it said.
She was also expected to appear at the 250 Grand Prix of Washington this weekend, giving her two scheduled public appearances after her extended absence.
The outlet reported that Melania has been seen publicly just 38 days this year, an average of once every six days in 2026.
Her limited visibility has included several notable absences.
She did not attend the rescheduled White House Correspondents' Dinner or the funeral of Trump's friend, Sen Lindsey Graham.
The report also said she was not seen accompanying Trump during his more leisurely activities, including back-to-back weekends golfing at his Bedminster Golf Club in New Jersey.
Natalie Harp has drawn attention around Trump
At the same time, Natalie Harp, 35, has emerged as a prominent presence around the president, having accompanied Trump on nearly every outing throughout August.
The report describes Harp as Trump's most "adoring aide," a characterization that has placed her in the spotlight as Melania's absence has drawn attention.
Melania's spokesperson points to her work
Melania's longtime spokesperson, Marc Beckman, said people should expect to see more of the first lady.
"This first lady has been a first lady of firsts: two pieces of legislation—one that we hope the Senate passes—an executive order, five reunifications, all kinds of bold movements internationally, Fostering the Future Together with 50 states, the United Nations," Beckman told One America News.
His comments came as Melania's planned Rose Garden appearance was set to spotlight Fostering the Future, her initiative that was slated to announce the new alliance.
Beckman also said she was planning to "plop down on culture," offering another indication that her public activity could extend beyond the upcoming White House event.
The White House event was scheduled for Thursday, with the Grand Prix appearance planned for the weekend.
