NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Melissa McCarthy has got her friend’s back! ‘The Spy’ star came down on trolls ridiculing her royal friend Meghan Markle on Sunday, April 21.

McCarthy felt that her pal was getting a lot of hate on social media for no reason.

“It bums me out for every woman and every person, that for no reason people just like to attack,” she told Page Six at the Broadway opening of ‘Suffs’ last week.

McCarthy explains why people hate Meghan Markle

The ‘Bridesmaids’ actress continued, “I always think, how inspiring! I’ve never once been threatened by someone who is amazing. I just think how inspiring. It’s really on the people throwing the hate.”

McCarthy called the Duchess of Sussex a "wonderful" and "awesome" person. “A smart interesting woman that has her own life, for some reason, is incredibly threatening to some people,” she said.

Talking about Shaina Taub’s musical ‘Suffs', the 53-year-old said, “I should say I thought I did [know about women’s history] and I was a little disappointed with myself that I didn’t know the full story and it’s really set me off into a wormhole of how much I really need to learn.”

She admitted that the show had made her “appreciate who’s come before me that’s made my life and my daughters lives better.”

The other A-listers in attendance at the premiere include producer Hillary Clinton, human rights activist Malala Yousafzai, Rachel Brosnahan, and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Internet unconvinced as Melissa McCarthy defends pal Meghan Markle

However, McCarthy's staunch defense of her pal did not exactly win over the Internet.

One person recalled McaCarthy’s attire on Meghan’s special day and wrote, “I haven't felt the same about McCarthy since she wore the cabbage hat mocking the late Queen's nickname in Markles 40th Birthday video.”

“I wonder how McCarthy felt about making fun of the Queen?” another asked.

“That’s a great point. Quelle surprise another Meghan venture 40 x 40 that was just an abandoned failure and the Harkles produced content disrespecting QEII” someone else said.

A person commented, “Meghan’s track record isn’t great which is why people in both England and the States dislike her. She has repeatedly taken swipes at her in laws, bullied staffers to the point of quitting…”

“MM rejected the rules of the game after accepting the engagement and marriage to the spare. Example: she couldn't follow dress protocol and wear hose and cover her shoulders,” another said.

A user joked, “Thanks, Melissa. The check is in the mail. Interesting? Made a life for herself?”

“People don’t find Meghan threatening, they find her annoying, something McCarthy can identify with,” one opined.
