Met Gala 2025 Worst Dressed: From Hailey Bieber's pantless tuxedo to Venus Williams' courtside couture

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: The Met Gala 2025 may have celebrated “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” but not all celebrities hit the mark.
Held on May 5 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, the event brought plenty of high fashion and a healthy dose of head-scratching red carpet misfires. From confusing tailoring choices to boring silhouettes, some of the world’s biggest stars missed the style memo altogether.
1. Heidi Klum

Veteran model Heidi Klum took to the 2025 Met Gala red carpet in a black gown embroidered with white detailing along the sides and a sweeping train. Her gown failed to impress, especially after the model repeatedly stumbled over its lengthy train. The look was swiftly panned online for being "boring."
2. Lorde

Lorde walked the red carpet in a muted gray satin ensemble by Thom Browne. Though minimalism can be powerful, this look bordered on a wardrobe mishap, with the floating bandeau top appearing barely secured.
3. Sydney Sweeney

Sydney Sweeney’s figure-hugging black beaded Miu Miu gown featured an awkward chest cutout and an overwhelming shine. The industrial-glitter aesthetic made the piece look stiff and unfinished.
4. Demi Moore

Demi Moore took the Met Gala's “tailoring” theme quite literally. The 62-year-old actress showed up in a baffling sculptural dress shaped like an oversized necktie. The bust twisted into a knot, the skirt hung like the tie’s length, and the tie loop was right over her head like a hat. Topped off with black-and-white pom-pom heels, the look was more fancy-dress-gone-wrong than high-fashion moment.
5. Kendall Jenner

Kendall Jenner, ditching her usual barely-there glam, showed up in a somber tailored gray jacket and long skirt combo that felt more office chic than couture. A diamond statement necklace tried to save the look, but even that couldn’t inject excitement. The ensemble was so safe and subdued that it faded into the background.
6. Shakira

Shakira's bubblegum pink gown was a blast from the not-so-distant past and not in a nostalgic way. With oversized poufs and a silhouette that screamed been there, seen that, the look felt like a rerun of 2024's Giambattista Valli moment, already worn by stars like Ariana Grande at the Oscars. The dress was more prom-queen than Met Gala.
7. Emma Chamberlain

Emma Chamberlain tried to put a quirky spin on tailoring, but the result missed the mark. Her pinstriped cutout gown, paired with sheer gloves and retro glasses, aimed for edgy sophistication but instead came off as more chaotic than chic. The clashing accessories and awkward cutouts felt more like a costume than couture, making the whole look feel like a confused mash-up of too many ideas at once.
8. Tom Francis

Stage star Tom Francis sported a tan satin-trimmed suit that did tailoring no favors. The fit was off, tight across the chest, baggy at the arms, and paired with black velvet loafers that felt mismatched.
9. Hailey Bieber

Hailey Bieber made a solo appearance in a Saint Laurent tuxedo jacket worn as a dress without pants. The ultra-minimalist look featured nothing more than diamond jewelry and a white pocket square. The ensemble lacked effort, making it look more suited for a coffee run than the Met Gala.
10. Venus Williams

Venus Williams stepped onto the red carpet in a Lacoste ensemble inspired by tennis whites. But what may have been a clever nod to her roots read more like a prep-school uniform gone awry. With pleats and polo vibes dominating the look, it felt mismatched with the gala’s grandeur.
