LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Michael Madsen’s estranged wife, DeAnna Madsen, is seeking spousal support after the actor, in a bombshell divorce filing, accused her of playing a role in their son Hudson Madsen’s tragic suicide.
In newly revealed court documents, DeAnna responded to Michael's divorce petition on October 4, agreeing that their 26-year marriage was over due to “irreconcilable differences.”
However, while Michael claimed their separation began in 2022, DeAnna noted the separation date was "to be determined."
Michael Madsen was arrested for domestic violence
The tension between the two escalated as DeAnna Madsen requested spousal support, despite Michael Madsen, 67, asking the court to cut her off from any financial assistance, including a share of his pension. “[DeAnna] has not had sufficient opportunity to identify and list such property and reserves the fight to amend this response," reported In Touch.
This latest chapter comes on the heels of an August incident where Michael was arrested for misdemeanor domestic violence. The actor was accused of pushing DeAnna and locking her out of their Los Angeles home during an argument. Though Michael was taken into custody and released on a $20,000 bond, the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office declined to press charges.
In a statement at the time, Michael’s rep described the situation as “a disagreement between Michael and his wife which we hope resolves positively for them both.”
Yet, just weeks later, on September 18, Michael officially filed for divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. “We are thrilled that Michael Madsen is able to put this behind him and look forward to our continued collaboration with more great things coming from this veteran and respected actor,” his rep added.
Michael Madsen blames estranged wife for son’s tragic death
In his divorce petition, Michael Madsen made shocking allegations, stating he had been estranged from DeAnna Madsen since their son’s suicide in January 2022, claiming that her "neglect, drinking, and alcoholism" contributed to his death.
“I have separated from [DeAnna] since my son’s death by suicide on 1/25/22. I believe [DeAnna] drove him to this by her neglect, drinking, and alcoholism,” Michael wrote in the filing.
“[DeAnna] also significantly to my personal issues as well. I am a victim in an abusive, codependent and toxic relationship that culminated in [DeAnna] breaking into my residence and having me wrongfully arrested for [domestic violence]. Once the cell bars close on you, it’s the final curtain on any marriage or relationship and mine was no exception."
Michael Madsen reveals son showed no signs of depression before the heartbreaking loss
Michael Madsen’s heart-wrenching declaration also revealed the emotional toll their son’s death has had on him, saying he didn’t notice any signs of depression before his son took his own life.
He told the Los Angeles Times days after his son's death, “I am in shock as my son, whom I just spoke with a few days ago, said he was happy — my last text from him was ‘I love you, dad'. I didn’t see any signs of depression. It’s so tragic and sad. I’m just trying to make sense of everything and understand what happened.”
In his filing with the Los Angeles Superior Court, Michael stated that he and DeAnna were married on April 15, 1996, and separated on January 26, 2022. The couple does not have any minor children. Citing "irreconcilable differences" as the cause of the split, Michael requested that DeAnna's entitlement to spousal support or any portion of his pension be revoked.
