WASHINGTON, DC: Former RNC chair Michael Steele blasted Donald Trump over his "Black jobs" remark made during the first 2024 presidential debate hosted by CNN on June 27.

In his first face-off with President Joe Biden, the GOP presumptive nominee spilled racist rhetoric by claiming illegal immigrants were taking up "Black jobs".

While answering a question regarding his appeal to Black voters, Trump said, "The fact is that his big kill on the Black people is the millions of people that he's allowed to come in through the border. They're taking Black jobs now—and it could be 18, it could be 19, and even 20 million people. They're taking Black jobs, and they're taking Hispanic jobs, and you haven't seen it yet, but you're gonna see something that's going to be the worst in our history."

Michael Steele hammers Trump's 'Black jobs' comment

The real estate mogul's attempt to pit the Black community against illegal immigrants did not go well with the former RNC chair, who is a hardcore Trump critic, Raw Story reported.

Responding to the racist remark, Steele asked the ex-president to "shut the hell up" in his appearance on MSNBC's 'The Weekend' where he is a co-host.

"What Black jobs are you talking about, Mr Trump?" Steele asked, before adding, "I mean, you want to make a play to Black folks, you can't even show up at a [Black] barbershop?"

He added, "You call into a barbershop, and you're going to talk to us about Black jobs? Shut the hell up. You know, why do we even entertain this crazy from this fool?"

Earlier, Trump cabinet member Ben Carson attempted to defend the remark, claiming people should not pick apart what Trump said. However, he added the real estate mogul could have phrased it better.

The "Black jobs" remark also made into a meme fest online where people expressed their confusion on what Trump actually meant by that.

Internet divided as Michael Steele slams Trump's 'Black jobs' remark

While one group of netizens noted that Donald Trump would make such remarks, others said that Steele and the GOP had a role in it.

"So true! He enjoys planting these crazy issues that spark so much controversy. He knows exactly what he's doing. He's sly!! HE MUST BE STOPPED!!!" a user commented below the Raw Story article.

"Sadly Mr Steele, you helped create this," another remarked.

"For someone with a lot of complaints about the Republican party ... Steele is still a Republican," added another

"Trump couldn’t get black people to come to a black church," read a fourth response.

"Those rich overlords want us to fight amongst each other while they steal from working class Americans. Donald Trump is doing their bidding," another person chimed in.

"Hey Michael "Muppet" Steele- Trump is a symptom of the disease you and your party helped create," one individual wrote.

"Michael said what we’re all thinking," another person wrote on X.

"I disagree with @MichaelSteele. Stinky needs to keep talking. And talking. And TALKING. His own worst enemy is himself. Let him take himself down and do the dirty work for us," someone else said.
