MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN: Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee (R) expressed his belief that voters will perceive Donald Trump as a "genuinely decent guy" following his speech at the Republican National Convention on Thursday, July 18.

In an interview with NewsNation's 'Morning in America', Huckabee said, “I believe that a lot of Americans saw him in a way that the press doesn’t usually allow him to be seen. And that’s that genuinely decent guy.”

Gov Mike Huckabee says Donald Trump addressed his assassination attempt with 'great sense of grace and class'

During the RNC event, Donald Trump officially delivered a long and rambling speech to officially accept the GOP presidential nomination.

The former president's speech was marked the longest acceptance speech by a major party candidate as it lasted more than an hour and a half.

Speaking to host Anna Kooiman on Friday, July 19, Huckabee said, “I thought he had the right tone, especially in the beginning part of the speech."

“He had to address the assassination attempt and he did that with a great sense of grace and class," he added, per The Hill.

Earlier this week, Trump and his advisers said that he had revised the original version of his convention speech draft following the assassination attempt, opting for a more restrained tone.

However, in his speech, the 78-year-old politician criticized former Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif) and President Joe Biden.

Chris Wallace says Donald Trump 'couldn't keep the act' in his acceptance speech

Criticizing Donald Trump's GOP nomination acceptance speech at the RNC event, CNN anchor Chris Wallace said, “It seemed as if he couldn’t keep up the act."

"And so, we started hearing about ‘crazy Nancy Pelosi’ and cheating on elections and talking about Biden," he continued.

“Frankly, it was a long speech, it was a rambling speech, it was a speech by an older man," Wallace said on CNN.

"And I couldn’t help but think that the people that are gonna be happiest tonight are not the people at Trump headquarters, but the people — the Democrats, maybe at Biden headquarters, maybe at the headquarters of other people who think they’re gonna replace Joe Biden," he added.

Internet mocked Gov Mike Huckabee for defending Donald Trump's speech

After Mike Huckabee stated that voters would see Donald Trump as a "genuinely decent guy" after the RNC speech, netizens slammed the former Arkansas governor as they disagreed with his remarks.

"No no no no no. Trump may be a lot of things but you can never ever say that he's a 'genuinely decent guy'" a user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote while another user tweeted, "No, Mike. They won’t. And the won’t because he isn’t."

"Not if they have eyes and ears," a netizen commented and a user wrote, "Anyone seeing him as a decent guy needs to seriously re-evaluate their definition of that. He is anything but."

One user tweeted, "Huckabee obviously never met the guy," while another wrote, "Nobody thinks Mike Huckabee himself is a decent guy," and a netizen commented, "Mike Huckabee clearly doesn’t know voters."
