The 'Devil Wears Prada' star’s reaction followed just hours after director Adele Lim confirmed to Variety that the third installment of the beloved film series is in progress.

Hathaway shared a video of herself relaxing outdoors, holding up one finger while saying, "One." The clip then transitioned to a scene from the original movie, where her character, Mia Thermopolis, reacts to the revelation that she's the Princess of Genovia by exclaiming, "Shut up."

She then added a second clip where she held up two fingers and said, "Two." This was followed by a scene featuring her on-screen grandmother, Julie Andrews, exclaiming, "Shut up!"

The video wraps up with Hathaway raising three fingers and saying, "Three," followed by her own playful, "Shut up." The clip then transitions to Myra's "Miracles Happen (When You Believe)," a song featured in the original movie.

Adele Lim, who co-wrote 'Crazy Rich Asians' and directed 'Joy Ride', has been tapped to direct the much-anticipated 'Princess Diaries 3', marking her first foray into the iconic Disney franchise.

As a longtime fan of the original films, Lim expressed her enthusiasm for the project in a recent statement to Variety.

"As a die-hard fan of the original Princess Diaries, I’m beyond excited to be a part of bringing the third iteration of this beloved franchise to life. We look forward to celebrating its core tenants of female power, joy and mentorship with audiences worldwide."

The first two films, 'The Princess Diaries' (2001) and 'The Princess Diaries 2: Royal Engagement' (2004), were directed by the late Garry Marshall, who passed away in 2016. His legacy continues to influence the project, as the new director steps in to take the reins.

In January 2023, Hathaway shared with PEOPLE that it was "exciting" to witness the enthusiasm fans had for the potential of a third film.

"It's a process that requires patience, and so everybody should consider themselves a part of the movie business now, because this is how long it actually takes to make things."
