Anne Hathaway 'willing to play ball' for eight-figure salary in 'The Devil Wears Prada 2', claims source
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Anne Hathaway might be willing to join 'The Devil Wears Prada 2', but only if she receives a substantial paycheck, according to sources.
The screenwriter of the 2006 hit, Aline Brosh McKenna, has reportedly started work on a possible sequel, which was being developed and produced by the original's producer Wendy Finerman, as per Variety.
Anne Hathaway's 'The Devil Wears Prada 2' paycheck needs to be in the eight-figure range
Based on Lauren Weisberger's book of the same name, the 2006 hit 'The Devil Wears Prada' centers on Andy Sachs (Anne Hathaway), a recent college graduate who is keen to pursue a career in journalism.
Andy finds herself employed as the junior assistant of Miranda Priestly (Meryl Streep), the head editor of Runway, a fictitious high-fashion magazine.
Throughout the movie, Andy struggles to balance her relationship with her boyfriend and colleagues (Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci) and her professional responsibilities.
One of the biggest stars in the rom-com industry, Hathaway is seemingly eager to return to the role of 'Devil Wears Prada 2' if she receives a substantial salary alongside the role.
Speaking with Life & Style magazine, an insider revealed, "The original Prada changed Anne’s life and redefined her career, and Anne proved this year that she’s still one of the biggest names in the rom-com world with her Amazon smash 'The Idea of You'. But Anne has also been down the road with talks about a DWP sequel a couple of times now and she hasn’t enjoyed that process one bit."
The source claimed that Disney wants to team up Hathaway, Streep, and Blunt, but 'The Idea of You' star might be wary because she has high expectations for the film and stresses the need to receive sufficient money for playing the lead in the sequel.
They noted, "In other words, she’s not going to just smile and take a million dollars for an extended cameo – the part needs to be substantial and the paycheck needs to be in the eight-figure range."
The insider further dished, "Anne is perfectly willing to play ball and do what she has to do to make this sequel a hit, but she’s not going to do it out of the kindness of her own heart and she’s perfectly prepared to hunker down in a negotiation over the next few months to get what she and her team think she has coming to her."
'Devil Wears Prada 2' might focus on the characters of Miranda Priestly and Emily Charlton
Meryl Streep, 75, scored a nomination for Best Actress at the 79th Academy Awards for playing the fierce Miranda Priestly in the 2006 hit.
As the original has become a pop culture phenomenon, fans are curious as to how the sequel will surpass it.
Puck News reported that the story may center on Priestly, who continues to lead Runway, as she struggles to make ends meet while navigating the increasingly digital magazine market.
Emily Charlton, meanwhile, has advanced through the ranks and is currently employed by a luxury brand conglomerate that collaborates with Runway to advertise in the magazine, as per PEOPLE Magazine.
Another option for the movie's premise would be to adapt the 2013 novel sequel 'Revenge Wears Prada: The Devil Returns'.
In the book, which is set almost 10 years after the first one, Andy and Emily reunite as successful magazine editors when Miranda invades Andy's life again.
While fans are excitedly anticipating more information about the sequel, another A-lister has put in a bid for a part in the movie—Sophie Turner.
"Yes! Oh my god. I’d want to be like an Emily Blunt character, I think," the 'Game of Thrones' alum exclaimed in an Elle interview, published on Wednesday, July 17.
