LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Miranda Lambert opened up about her past encounters with Gypsy Rose Blanchard, who gained notoriety following the shocking murder of her mother Dee Dee Blanchard in 2015, during a recent interview with Theo Von during his 'This Past Weekend' podcast.

At that time, Dee Dee had been subjecting Gypsy to numerous unnecessary medical treatments, a situation stemming from her Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, reported Whiskey Riff.

Miranda Lambert recalled meeting Gypsy Rose Blanchard several times through the Make-a-Wish Foundation, where she and several other country music stars interacted with the young girl, whom they believed to be suffering from severe illnesses.

"Super, super sweet girl," Lambert said of Gypsy Rose, expressing her genuine fondness for the then-ill child.

"I believed her. I did," Lambert said, referencing Dee Dee's narrative that her child was severely sick. "When (the news about her murder and Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy) came out, I was freaking out."

The singer said she received a text from someone inquiring if she had watched 'Mommy Dead and Dearest', the 2017 documentary detailing the Blanchard family's saga. Following that, Lambert began to research the case further.

"And I've been down all the rabbit holes. I'm, like, in it. 100 percent," she added, noting that she's kept up with Gypsy Rose's story up to the present day.

In late 2023, Gypsy Rose was paroled after serving eight years of a 10-year sentence for second-degree murder. Since her release, she has conducted numerous interviews, published an e-book, taken part in a documentary series, and revealed that she is expecting her first child in January 2025.

Miranda Lambert calls Gypsy Rose Blanchard 'genuine'

Reflecting on the past, Miranda Lambert noted that the country music community, including herself, was unknowingly involved in Dee Dee's manipulation.

“Her mom worked the system and it worked. We all met her. The whole country music community. Ask any of us. She was part of it,” Lambert said.

Despite the shocking turn of events, Lambert emphasized that Gypsy Rose genuinely believed she was sick during their meetings, “But it was real to her. She was a child. She was a baby child. She was very genuine.”

Though Gypsy has not reached out to Lambert since her release, the singer expressed understanding if Gypsy has chosen to move on from that part of her life. “I mean, that was so long ago. She might just have put all that behind her, which, I would if I were her,” Lambert concluded.

Gypsy Rose Blanchard to release memoir in audiobook format too

After serving eight and a half years in prison, Gypsy Rose Blanchard is continuing to share her story and advocate for others affected by Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy.

This form of child abuse, where a caregiver fabricates or induces illnesses in a child to gain sympathy, was a major part of Gypsy’s life as her mother Dee Dee convinced the world that she suffered from severe health conditions, including leukemia and muscular dystrophy.

Now, Gypsy is reclaiming her voice and inviting the public into her life through her upcoming memoir 'My Time to Stand'. The memoir, which offers an intimate look at her harrowing experiences under her mother’s control and her journey toward independence, will also be available as an audiobook—narrated by Gypsy herself.

In a statement to People Magazine earlier this year, Gypsy explained the significance of the memoir's title, “I am in love with the title of my book not only because it addresses the question I get most, but because in our pain and struggle we can find what it is that we want to stand for.”

She added that her goal is for readers to discover their own purpose, just as she found hers in her painful story.

The memoir aims to raise awareness about Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy and recounts Gypsy’s life under her mother's abusive control. Gypsy hopes that by sharing her personal journey, she can inspire others to find strength and purpose in their own struggles.
