Moises Sanchez: Husband stabs wife to death in front of 5-year-old daughter after she refused to cuddle amid affair suspicions
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA: Authorities said that a husband in Nevada killed his wife by stabbing her to death in front of their 5-year-old daughter because the victim had refused to cuddle with him.
Moises Sanchez, 53, allegedly admitted to investigators that he had suspicions that 43-year-old Veronica Cortes-Rosales was having an affair.
Moises Sanchez and wife decided to remain ‘friends for the kids’
Sanchez failed to prove his wife's extramarital affair, according to the probable cause affidavit and statement from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department.
“He explained that they agreed they would not have s*x and would live together and remain ‘friends’ for the kids,” officers wrote. “He further admitted that if Veronica had responded to his affection in bed, he would not have killed her.”
By reports, Sanchez informed police that he and Cortes-Rosales were wed in 1999.
He stated that he thought she was having an affair with a McDonald's coworker because she had begun acting strangely three or four months earlier.
Police stated, “Moises could not articulate why he believed she was having an affair, other than she was acting differently and was not affectionate with him anymore,” as per Law&Crime.
It went on to say, “He further explained that she would be texting on her phone late at night, and he knew she was not communicating with her family. Moises said he took her phone by force in the past, and she became very ‘nervous,’ but he denied ever going through with it.”
Moises Sanchez was unable to find any evidence of his wife's affair
Although Sanchez claimed to have spied on his wife and her coworker, he was unable to uncover any evidence of an affair. To ensure that no one would recognize his car, he watched Veronica's car on Friday, February 2, by using a friend's car.
However, Veronica went to her car after her work shift, sat there for roughly five minutes, and then departed.
Sanchez claimed that later that night, he made up a tale about his car breaking down, and when he asked her to come get him, she refused to believe him. About it, they got into a fight.
Authorities said, “Before he got into bed, he retrieved a hunting knife which he kept in a drawer next to the bed.”
Then, he told them, he placed it in a trunk on his side of the bed. Sanchez stated in court that his wife positioned herself between him and their daughter, with the daughter closest to the drawer.
With Cortes-Rosales' back to him, he went to bed. According to Sanchez, he attempted to embrace her, but she pushed him away. He made another attempt; he claimed in documents that she turned him down once more.
"Moises said he lost it," police reported. He claimed to have stabbed his wife once in the back after grabbing the knife from the trunk.
Police reported, "Moises said she tried to scream, but he didn’t let her. He said he told her to ‘Shut the f**k up’ because she would wake up the kids."
According to the documents, he got down on his knees and stabbed her once more, this time in the front.
“Moises saw that Veronica’s blood was spreading onto his daughter, so he picked her up and covered Veronica’s body with a blanket,” police wrote.
“He changed his daughter into different pajamas and put her back to sleep in her bed, which was also inside their bedroom.”
Before putting the knife back on a pillow in the bedroom, he allegedly claimed to have cleaned both his hands and the blade.
Moises Sanchez admitted shooting 'his son’s 9 mm Glock through a pillow'
According to records, Sanchez told a friend over the phone that he "f****d up."
Sanchez is said to have told the friend what he had done when he arrived. After seeing the body in the bedroom, the friend carried the youngster to another room.
“Moises further admitted that approximately one week ago, he shot his son’s 9 mm Glock through a pillow in his bedroom,” police wrote.
“He watched 'The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly,' in which a gun was fired into a pillow, which acted as a silencer. Moises said he just wanted to try it. He denied that it was any type of premeditation or threat toward Veronica.”
But according to reports, Sanchez acknowledged that the attempted cuddle and the made-up tale about the broken-down car were just tests.
About the pair's prior correspondence, police stated that "Moises denied that Veronica had ever asked for a divorce." According to the medical examiner's office, Cortes-Rosales was killed by homicide and suffered multiple stab wounds as a cause of death.
According to records, Sanchez is still being held without bond at the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of first-degree murder. The date of the preliminary hearing is March 11.
