NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell took a jibe at President Donald Trump, aiming at his cognitive and mental state, following the POTUS' bizarre reply to a reporter's question.

Trump attended a press conference on Tuesday, July 1, the day he paid a visit to "Alligator Alcatraz", the new migrant detention center in Florida’s Everglades, along with Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

During Tuesday's segment of 'The Last Word', O’Donnell brought up a clip from the president’s recent press conference at "Alligator Alcatraz", the detention center which will hold up to 3,000 migrants amid a crackdown on illegal immigration.

The host said, "Watch this stunning exhibition of the emptiness and total dysfunction of Donald Trump’s mind that is worse than anything ever seen in the mind of any president of any country."

He added, "This was a simple question. Couldn’t be simpler. Watch Donald Trump’s repeated inability to understand that simple question."

Following this, a clip of Trump answering a Fox News reporter played, where he went into a rant about how much he loves Florida.

The POTUS told the reporter, "Look, this is my home state; I love it," after he was asked about how long detainees will be held at "Alligator Alcatraz".

"I love your government. I love all the people around. These are all friends of mine. They know them very well… I feel very comfortable in the state. I’ll spend a lot of time here," Trump added.

O’Donnell didn't hold back and Trump's admiration for the Everglades triggered the host to dig deeper into his scathing mockery.

He said, "That’s right. Donald Trump thought the question was, 'How much time are you going to spend in Florida?' That’s what a lot of 79-year-old guys get when they move to Florida. How much time are you going to spend in Florida?"

Lawrence O'Donnell claims Trump suffers from 'creeping dementia'

O’Donnell continued his jibe at Trump and slammed the president for having dementia, a claim made by several other critics.

He said, "The rest of the answer gets even worse. I stopped it there to spare you hearing the actual sound of the banality of Donald Trump’s creeping dementia and his cruelty."

"He’s not there. There’s a character named Donald Trump with a red hat and orange makeup who shows up at these events, and words come out of his mouth, but he’s not there," he added.

He concluded his segment about the president and said, "His mind, as exhibited from that response to that very simple question, does not work. And that is a crisis for the United States of America."

In May 2025, Trump sparked concerns about his cognitive health after he awkwardly fumbled a question regarding restarting visa interviews for foreign students.

He was addressing a press conference on May 28, when a reporter asked him if the administration planned on resuming foreign student visa interviews.

The reporter asked, "When could the administration resume interviews for foreign students' visas?", to which Trump replied, "On what?"

The reporter repeated, "For the foreign student visa. Yesterday was the —" before he cut her off, asking, "For the French?"

Internet trolls Trump for his reply to reporter during 'Alligator Alcatraz' news conference

Many internet users trolled Donald Trump for his rant about and how much he loves Florida after he was asked about how long detainees will be held at "Alligator Alcatraz".

A user wrote on X, "He doesn’t even know what is happening in this interview," while one added, "Very disturbing."

A person also stated, "That’s nothing new with him," whereas one mentioned, "The gaslighting is so thick considering how their "sharp as a tack" leader flamed out."

A user also wrote, "Does anybody who exhibits mental decline, as was very evident yesterday, have custody of the nuclear codes? Here's hoping that we all remove our political lenses for the good of the country," while one commented, "Trump is having a serious neurological problem. He is starting to make many gaffes like Biden."
