CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), a staunch anti-abortion advocate, erupted in fury over Planned Parenthood Great Rivers' decision to offer free vasectomies and medication abortions near the site of the upcoming Democratic National Convention (DNC).

The controversy is heating up as the mobile health unit, stationed just blocks from the convention in Chicago, Illinois, prepares to provide these services from August 19 to August 20.

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), the MAGA supporter wrote, "I thought this was fake but it's not. Planned Parenthood is going to provide free vasectomies and abortions at the Democrat National Convention this upcoming week."

"It’s hard to even comprehend and it’s truly heartbreaking. Being a mother is the most precious gift, choose life," added the Georgia Rep, who got an A+ rating from Susan B Anthony Pro-Life America, a non-profit organization seeking to end abortion in the US.

Planned Parenthood Great Rivers' fight against restrictions on reproductive care

Planned Parenthood Great Rivers, which aims to highlight the importance of free medication abortions, vasectomies, and emergency contraceptives has defended the move as a necessary response to increasing restrictions on reproductive services across the country.

Their statement clarified that the mobile unit's presence at the DNC is a strategic effort to provide essential services to individuals who may lack access in their home states due to stringent abortion bans.

"Having the mobile clinic at the DNC is another way Planned Parenthood constantly works to expand services for Illinois residents and to address the influx of patients to Illinois as surrounding states continue to enact severe restrictions on reproductive care, including extreme abortion bans," said a statement from the organization, per The Independent

Rising abortion restrictions across states

In response to the growing demand for reproductive services, the mobile clinic has already filled all available slots for medication abortions and vasectomies. This move comes amid a national climate where abortion access is a pivotal issue, with many states enacting severe restrictions.

The US Supreme Court overturned Roe v Wade in June 2022, essentially ending all federal protections on abortion and leaving it up to states to regulate or ban abortions.

Since then, at least 13 states have implemented highly restrictive laws that prohibit abortion in nearly all cases, while 15 additional states have enacted various forms of restriction.

Greene celebrated the Roe v Wade ruling, saying it could be the "beginning to the end of abortion."

Democrats have vehemently opposed the restrictions on abortion, with Vice President Kamala Harris repeatedly highlighting reproductive freedoms as a central theme of her campaign. She has since called for the restoration of Roe v Wade.

One simply wrote, "Sickening…," echoing her thoughts on the move.

Another said, "MTG, if you're going to say something about this, at least get it right. Planned Parenthood is parking a mobile health center near the DNC. Yes, it will be offering free vasectomies and MEDICATION abortion to people with appointments."

They added, "Reproductive rights are more important than ever now. It doesn't matter if it's the state or the federal government, no one should be telling a woman what she can and cannot do with her body."

"Thanks for advertising! Anyone who needs and abortion or chooses at vasectomy. This is where to go," remarked a person.

Someone else lamented, "This is the reality we live in—where life is treated as disposable. Free vasectomies and abortions at the Democrat National Convention? It’s a direct attack on the foundation of family and masculinity. They’re celebrating what should be the most sacred—creating life."

"It is taxpayer funded. Nothing is ever free," stated another person, with one more writing, "Thank you for saying it should be a choice."

"They have offered the convenience of a food truck or a bookmobile to their followers. Let's just call this ghoulish thing what it is An Abortionmobile," fumed an individual.
