Prince's sister Tyka Nelson was an R&B artist
As the daughter of jazz musician John L Nelson and Mattie Shaw Nelson, Tyka Nelson was Prince’s only real sibling, growing up in a family deeply embedded in music.
She released four albums over her career, spanning from 1988 to 2011, blending her unique voice and personal lyrics.

Her song 'Marc Anthony’s Tune' peaked at Number 33 on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart in July 1988. The song, produced by Larry Graham, was inspired by her admiration for the singer Marc Anthony.

Tyka's last performance in her hometown, the Twin Cities, was in 2008 at Bunkers, with her final public appearance in Australia in 2018.
Her music career left a lasting mark, and though she described herself as primarily a writer, her albums reflected her rich artistry.
Tyka Nelson leaves behind her six children and her legacy
Tyka Nelson was married to Maurice Phillips and was a mother of six children -- daughters Danielle, Crystal, and Chelsea, and sons Rachard, Sir Montece Laeil, and President LenNard Laeil Nelson, according to People.
Tyka’s death marks another chapter of loss for the Nelson family, coming eight years after Prince’s untimely death at 57, which was attributed to an accidental fentanyl overdose.
Despite her musical career, she often remained in the shadow of her famous brother, Prince, but continued to honor his legacy.
She accepted Prince’s American Music Award for Top Soundtrack on his behalf following his death, showing her dedication to his memory.
