WASHINGTON, DC: A large '8647' was found etched into the grass of the National Mall on Thursday, June 11, days before crowds are expected for a UFC event marking President Donald Trump's 80th birthday.
'8647' is a political slogan and protest code that allegedly means to get rid of President Trump. In '8647', '86' is reportedly a slang term meaning to get rid of someone, while '47' represents the 47th president of the United States, Donald Trump.
Interior Department probes '8647' markings
The US Department of the Interior said on Thursday it is investigating what appeared to be a large tracing of '8647' into the grounds of the National Mall in Washington, DC.
Images from a live webcam atop the Washington Monument appeared to show the numbers formed by patches of dead grass across a section of the National Mall east of the World War II Memorial.
It reportedly shows the numbers eight, six and seven, but a four is not clearly visible.
The United States Secret Service referred questions about the markings to the United States Park Police, which is handling the investigation.
A spokesperson for the United States Department of the Interior, which oversees the National Mall, described the markings as “deranged vandalism” and said such actions “will not be tolerated.”
“Any threat against the president is taken very seriously by the Department, and our US Park Police will investigate this incident and hold those responsible accountable,” the spokesperson said.
What does '8647' mean in political rivalry?
The term '8647' has been adopted by Trump’s political rivals to express their protest against the Trump administration. Trump allies and the US Department of Justice have said it could be interpreted as a call to violence to get rid of Trump.
In April, former FBI Director James Comey was indicted by the Department of Justice on charges of threatening the president after posting an image on Instagram in which the numbers were spelled out in seashells.
“I have complete faith in our judicial system. It’s the genius of our founders,” Comey said in response to the charges.
