WASHINGTON, DC: A moderate New York Democrat has issued a stark warning to his own party, claiming that President Donald Trump correctly identifies the economic struggles of Americans, while the Democratic platform drifts dangerously toward "socialism."

Rep Tom Suozzi, who represents a reportedly swing district that includes parts of Queens and Long Island, sounded the alarm on the "road to ruin" his colleagues are paving by pandering to the "far-left" extremes of their base.

In a candid assessment, Suozzi acknowledged that Trump’s dominance in his own district highlighted a massive disconnect between the Democratic establishment and everyday voters.

Tom Suozzi claims Trump 'properly' diagnosed the economic crisis

In an interview with Fox News Digital, published on on Saturday, November 22, Suozzi claimed that the president has his finger on the pulse of the American electorate regarding the economy.

"Trump is right that people are economically insecure," Suozzi said, validating the president's campaign focus on inflation and the cost of living. "They're worried about their financial security. They properly diagnose the problem."

Democrat warns party must be 'capitalist' and 'not socialist'

Suozzi lashed out at the growing influence of the "far-left" within the Democratic Party, specifically calling out the ideology seemingly championed by figures like New York City's Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani.

"We've got to be capitalist, not socialist," Suozzi declared. "We've got to be mainstream, not extreme."

Weeks after Mamdani won the Democratic primary for mayor, various wealthy interest groups have begun to mobilize against the 33-year-old state assemblyman. Mamdani has vowed to freeze rent hikes for a year, make buses free, and increase taxes on wealthy New Yorkers. Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Monday that he will continue his run for New York City mayor after losing to Zohran Mamdani in last month's Democratic primary. (Photo by Spencer Platt/Getty Images)

He slammed socialism as a "terrible solution" that has "never worked in the history of the world," explicitly rejecting the direction taken by prominent progressives in his home state.

"We have to be proud of our country, not ashamed of our country," he added, echoing a sentiment often heard at Trump rallies.

Tom Suozzi reveals Trump 'won by 19000 votes' in his district

Suozzi said that despite being a Democrat, his district is essentially a Trump country.

"Trump won by 19,000 votes," Suozzi stated, highlighting the president's surging popularity even in traditionally blue regions like New York.

The congressman noted that in the 2025 election cycle, Republicans made significant gains in his area by weaponizing the "socialist" policies of local Democrats to win seats.

"Mamdani was weaponized by the Republicans in their races, and they won everything," Suozzi explained, claiming that the radical left agenda is allegedly toxic to general election voters.

While Suozzi called for a higher minimum wage as a potential solution, his overarching message was about the Democratic Party losing support by seemingly ignoring the "general public" in favor of activists.
