SAN FRANCISCO, CALIFORNIA: The San Francisco 49ers have disclosed the severity of the injuries sustained by their rookie wide receiver, Ricky Pearsall, after a shocking robbery attempt left the 23-year-old athlete with a gunshot wound.

The tragic incident unfolded in San Francisco's Union Square, a popular shopping and tourist destination, where Ricky Pearsall was reportedly involved in an autograph signing event.

According to reports, Pearsall was targeted by assailants aiming to steal his Rolex watch. In the course of the robbery, Pearsall was shot in the chest, leading to immediate medical attention and his subsequent hospitalization.

Fellow wide receiver Deebo Samuel, a key player for the 49ers, quickly took to social media to reassure fans about Pearsall's condition.

Samuel posted a message on X, formerly known as Twitter, saying, "He’s good. Thank god!!!!" accompanied by praying hands and fingers-crossed emojis.

This post was shared about an hour after the news of the shooting broke, providing a glimmer of hope amid the worrying reports.

A video that has since circulated online shows Pearsall being loaded into an ambulance shortly after the shooting.

The 49ers' first-year receiver, originally from Arizona, was just a week away from making his NFL debut in a game against the New York Jets, scheduled for September 9. However, his participation in that game was already in doubt due to a pre-existing shoulder injury.

The shooting of Pearsall has prompted swift responses from San Francisco city officials.

Mayor London Breed released a statement addressing the incident, expressing concern for Pearsall and highlighting the prompt action taken by law enforcement.

"This afternoon, there was an attempted robbery in Union Square involving San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall and he was shot. SFPD was on scene immediately and an arrest of the shooter was made," Breed stated.

San Francisco District Attorney Brooke Jenkins also weighed in, condemning the violence and vowing to pursue justice in the case.

"Violent crime has no place in our city and I will continue to stand shoulder to shoulder with the San Francisco Police Department and law enforcement to make our city safer," Jenkins said in her statement.

The shooting has cast a shadow over the 49ers' preparations for the upcoming NFL season, with Pearsall's potential absence adding to the team's challenges.
