KANSAS CITY, KANSAS: Patrick Mahomes, already in the spotlight for weeks due to the Kermit the Frog puppet controversy and a home burglary incident, has found himself facing another issue—this time with the NFL.

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback was hit with a hefty fine for making a "violent gesture" during his touchdown celebration in last week's game against the Buffalo Bills.

The penalty has sparked outrage among fans, who are now slamming the NFL for what they see as a ridiculous decision.

How much did NFL fine Patrick Mahomes for his 'violent gesture'?

During the Kansas City Chiefs' loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, November 17, Patrick Mahomes connected with tight end Noah Gray for a touchdown. After the play, the 29-year-old quarterback made an alleged gun-like gesture that drew the attention of NFL officials.

In a video shared by NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Mahomes was seen pointing with two fingers on each hand, a move the NFL deemed to mimic the use of firearms.

It’s worth noting that Mahomes is the first player to be fined for a gun-related gesture under the NFL’s stricter rules this season. The video was posted with a caption explaining the fine: "The NFL fined #Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes $14,069 for unsportsmanlike conduct (violent gesture) as he celebrated a touchdown pass last week in Buffalo."

Back in September, Travis Kelce weighed in on the NFL's crackdown on gun gestures after his brother Jason referred to the league as the “no-fun league” during an episode of their 'New Heights' podcast.

Kelce said, “I know we don't want this to be like, 'Oh, NFL players shooting guns,’ 'I get that. But this is so subtle. Unless you're, like, doing it at a defender, it shouldn't be a flag. If you want to fine the guy after the game for doing it, whatever, that's up to the NFL for wanting to protect their league.”

He then called the violation “absolutely ridiculous", adding, “I just think it's too much, man. It's too much and it's affecting the game in the wrong way. I get the guy's got to play by the rules and stuff like that. I don't want to get the NFL on my a** for saying something. But I just think this is too far.”

Patrick Mahomes fans express shock over fine 'for pointing fingers'

After hearing about the fine imposed on Patrick Mahomes for his alleged violent gesture, many fans took to social media to express their disagreement with the NFL's decision.

One, who didn't agree with the fine, remarked, "So in the US, we can have guns legally but cannot make simple gestures. What a joke."

Another remarked, "This is getting ridiculous. What does the NFL do with all this fine money?"

A Mahomes supporter commented, "I'm not even sure what the "violent gesture" is supposed to be. It looks like a cross between two finger guns and the drawing back of a bow string."

Another user expressed disbelief with shock emojis, writing, "Fined for pointing fingers 😵😵."

A user mocked the fine, saying, "This is getting out of control 😂."

One person suggested taking action, stating, "@NFL is making a huge mistake All fans should rally together and start doing this gesture whenever possible to be seen on camera. This nonsense has to stop. The fans need to make a statement."

The last user simply remarked, "Ridiculous."
