LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: FX's new show 'American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez' has created quite the buzz on social media, but not just because of its portrayal of the late NFL star.

A viral clip featuring an over-the-top impression of Robert Gronkowski has people talking, and even Gronk himself chimed in on the portrayal.

The Aaron Hernandez miniseries delves into former NFL star's life

'American Sports Story: Aaron Hernandez' delves into the complicated and almost surreal life of the former NFL star Aaron Hernandez. Now, FX is tackling it in a miniseries format, with a strong critical reception so far — holding a solid 73% rating on Rotten Tomatoes at the time of publication.

Despite the positive reviews, not everyone is completely sold on this version of Hernandez's life — particularly with how the infamous “Patriot Way” is depicted.

But amidst all the heavy drama and intense storytelling, it’s not the lead actor Josh Andres Rivera who’s getting the most attention.

No shade to him or the other talented actors, but there’s one scene that has everyone in stitches: a hilariously bizarre draft war room moment featuring a quirky Bill Belichick impression, quickly overshadowed by the entrance of Robert Kraft. This scene is going viral across the internet.

In a surprise twist, one of the show's biggest talking points is Laith Wallschleger's portrayal of Rob Gronkowski, Hernandez’s former teammate and the other half of their legendary tight-end duo. Thanks to an interview on 'Up & Adams' with Kay Adams, we got a firsthand reaction from Gronk himself on how his character was brought to life in the series, according to Bleacher Report.

Robert Gronkowski, nicknamed Gronk, who’s always been larger-than-life in the NFL and beyond, couldn’t help but chuckle at the over-the-top performance by Laith Wallschleger — who’s been a friend of his for nearly 14 years.

“It was definitely over the top," Gronk said, "and you wanna know a fun fact about that clip, Kay? That is my good friend Laith, who is playing me there. I’ve known him for about 14 years, and he definitely went over the top, and I feel like it just fit the show perfectly, though."

"Especially with all the other characters and Coach Belichick, and just seeing Robert Kraft in this show as well. […] A little exaggerated that’s for sure, but it played the part in how this show was produced from all the clips that I saw," he added.

Wallschleger — who has worked as Gronk’s double before including for a FanDuel commercial — certainly knows the ins and outs of portraying the four-time Super Bowl champ.

Gronkowski acknowledged that Laith’s impression was mostly spot on, though he had to point out, “He’s shorter than me though, and he’s definitely not as jacked as me. But he’s alright.” Gronk did give Laith credit where it was due, especially for nailing the Gronk laugh.

Interestingly enough, Wallschleger had to skip working with Gronk on a recent commercial project due to his role in 'American Sports Story'. Laith had to cancel at the last minute, leading Gronk to joke that his friend was becoming “big-time.”
