LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Nick Jonas sparked controversy on social media after engaging with tech billionaire Elon Musk in what he described as a “fun and non-drama filled post.”

The 32-year-old singer, who responded to Musk’s tweet with a reference to the Jonas Brothers’ song 'Year 3000', faced backlash from fans who interpreted his interaction as a show of support for the controversial billionaire.

Nick Jonas' tweet that started it all

The drama unfolded on Tuesday, December 17, when Elon Musk responded to a post by Tesla Owners Silicon Valley, which highlighted a significant rise in Tesla’s profits.

Musk added an old GIF of the Jonas Brothers spinning around a coffee table with the caption, “My, how the tables have turned!”

Nick then quote-tweeted Musk’s post, writing, “Take us to the Year 3000,” referencing his band’s cover of 'Busted’s hit song.

Fans threaten to boycott Nick Jonas over Elon Musk tweet

While the tweet was seemingly lighthearted, it triggered a wave of criticism from fans, with some expressing disappointment and others even threatening to boycott the Jonas Brothers’ upcoming 20th-anniversary tour.

One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote, "I have Elon blocked for a reason so I won’t get jump scared anymore Nick! This is scary you still have time to delete this please and thank you! Kevin was always my favorite." Another tweeted, "Oh Nick you’ve always been my least favorite brother."

"We’re not just gonna move on from this btw. to be noticeably quiet during the entire election cycle and then tweet something like this? i’ve been a fan since 2005 and was really looking forward to a 20 year anniversary tour but i just cannot give my support to this," a fan penned.

"This part wasn’t on ‘introducing me’… I feel cheated," a netizen remarked, while someone opined, "Another reason why i’m glad i switched to Joe…"

Nick Jonas refuses to delete post, says source

Sources close to the singer told Daily Mail that Nick Jonas is standing by his tweet despite the backlash.

“Nick is not going to waver from his post on Elon Musk, nor will he double down and doesn’t plan on deleting it,” an insider revealed.

The source explained that Nick believed the tweet would be taken as a playful comment and did not anticipate the controversy.

“He thinks many are taking things a little overboard in how they are reacting to it all, but there is nothing he can do about it except let everything die down,” shared the insider.

“This will pass, and Nick has already moved on from whatever controversy this somehow has made,” they concluded.
