Nick Reiner appears ‘calm’ but ‘in a fog’ after parents Rob and Michele's murders: Source
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Sources say Nick Reiner appears calm but emotionally distant in the aftermath of his parents Rob and Michele Reiner's deaths.
The 32-year-old, who is being held at Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles, has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of his parents. He is scheduled to be arraigned on January 7.
Nick Reiner isn't even close to processing what happened
A source told TMZ that Nick is not reeling in grief; rather, he's "in a fog," likely in part due to his medical condition and the medications he's taking.
They went on to characterize Nick as "calm," "cognizant," and "dazed," adding that he isn't even close to processing what happened.
This comes after reports suggested that the 32-year-old had been diagnosed with schizophrenia before the deaths of his parents.
It has been reported that he had been acting "erratic" and "dangerous" weeks before the tragic incident.
Two sources with direct knowledge of Nick said he was getting help from a psychiatrist for mental health problems. In the month before the killings, Nick's behavior had reportedly become "alarming."
Nick Reiner's meds were changed in the weeks leading up to the murders
TMZ reported that they were told Nick's meds were changed in the weeks leading up to the murders, and they were causing Nick to lose even more control. Doctors were adjusting the medications to no avail.
Nick had recently received treatment at a rehab center in Los Angeles that focuses on mental health issues and addiction.
The facility reportedly costs $70,000 each month and is often visited by wealthy, influential parents looking for help for their troubled children.
Rob and Michele's daughter, Romy Reiner, reportedly contacted emergency services on Sunday, December 14, at 3.30 pm after discovering her father dead in his Brentwood mansion. She was later told by paramedics that her mom had also died, according to reports.
Rob and Michele had reportedly been dead for several hours, as rigor mortis had appeared to have set in before they were found.
Speaking on Tuesday, Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman revealed the charges against Nick. "I'm here to announce that our office will be filing charges against Nick Reiner, accused of killing his parents," he said at a press conference.
