LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Nicolas Cage is facing legal action from his ex, Christina Fulton nearly a year after an alleged violent altercation involving their adult son, Weston Coppola Cage.

In a lawsuit filed in Los Angeles County’s Superior Court, Fulton alleges that Cage failed to address their 34-year-old son’s mental health and substance abuse struggles, leading to the April 28, 2024, incident in which she was allegedly physically attacked.

Christina Fulton claims that Nicolas Cage ignored warnings about son Weston’s condition and instead enabled his lifestyle by bailing him out of jail multiple times, drinking with him despite his history of substance abuse, and funding his residence near the actor’s home.

Weston was arrested in July 2024 on charges of assault with a deadly weapon and released on bond.

Fulton, who initially denied any argument with Weston on the day of the incident, later described the event as a “mental-health crisis” where she was attempting to get him help, according to People.

Following his arrest, she stated that she had been “brutally assaulted” and emphasized the urgency of her son receiving proper psychiatric care.

Fulton’s lawsuit accuses Cage of failing to set necessary guidelines to curb Weston’s alleged reckless behavior, despite being aware of his violent tendencies.

“Nicolas knew or should have known that Weston posed a serious and imminent danger to others, including Plaintiff, based on his documented history of violent assaults, substance abuse, and mental instability,” the lawsuit states.

Nicolas Cage has denied any responsibility for his son’s actions. His attorney released a statement calling the lawsuit “absurd and frivolous,” emphasizing that Weston is a 34-year-old adult whose behavior Cage does not control.

“Mr Cage is not responsible for Weston’s alleged assault of his mother,” the statement asserts.

Christina Fulton details severe injuries and career impact

Christina Fulton alleges that the attack left her with severe injuries, including a brain concussion, multiple contusions, a disfiguring eye injury, dental trauma, PTSD, and psychological damage, all requiring extensive medical treatment and surgeries.

The filing claims that the incident severely impacted Fulton’s professional life.

At the time, she was filming a Netflix series, and the injuries prevented her from continuing the project, attending promotional events, and maintaining her reputation in the industry.

Additionally, Fulton alleges that her fashion brand, Cyclish, and a multi-million-dollar business opportunity were jeopardized due to her inability to work while fearing for her safety.

Christina Fulton is suing Nicolas Cage for negligent supervision and negligent undertaking, while Weston faces charges of assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and negligent infliction of emotional distress.

Both are also being sued for negligence.
